Adaptation
bugs live just about anywhere there is moisture and dead plants to eat, but they are most common in forests and other humid habitats. A few live along the seashore, close to their marine relatives. They need humid conditions to survive.

Advantages
The pill bug is the only crustacean that can spend its entire life on land. Their shells look like armor and they are known for their ability to roll into a ball. Sometimes children call them rolliepollies. Most pill bugs live for up to two years. They are most active at night. Pill bugs do not spread diseases or contaminate food.

Winter-Pill

bugs and Sow bugs (similar but not

the same things) tend to stay in urbanized areas.

They cannot survive temperatures below 21 degrees F. If in a forest, for example, they would have to burrow at least 2 feet into the soil to avoid the freezing temperatures!

bugs breed mainly during the spring

season. Females will lay eggs that they carry in a

pouch underneath their abdomens. They produce about 35 eggs at a time and will keep them in their pouch even after nymphs emerge from their eggs. The nymphs will remain in their mothers pouch for about 45 to 60 days after hatching and will stay there until the y emerge from the pouch. Nymphs will molt twice in their lifespan before they are at full maturity and this can take about 1 year. The will first molt the back half and then molt the front half about 2-3 days later.

Ten Cool facts about pill bugs are:
1.Pillbugs are crustaceans, not insects. 2. Pill bugs breathe through gills., they cannot survive being submerged in water. 3. A juvenile pillbug molts in two sections. 4. Pill bug mothers carry their eggs in a pouch. 5. Pill bugs don't urinate. 6. A pill bug can drink with its anus. 7. Pill bugs curl into tight balls when threatened. 8. Pill bugs eat their own poop. 9. Sick pill bugs turn bright blue. 10. A pill bugs blood is blue.

sites that provide locally humid retreats during the day. Compost frequently have rich populations, and large numbers can often be found beneath logs and among rubble piles. All species are nocturnal and may venture over considerable distances during the night. On humid evenings, they can often be seen in large numbers with the help of a flashlight. Pill bugs feed on dead vegetation, such litter. as wood and leaf

family can roll into a ball, an ability they share with the outwardly similar but unrelated pill millipedes and other animals. It is this ability which gives woodlice in this family their common name of pill bugs, roly polies or potato bugs. The best known species in the family is Armadillidium vulgare, the common pill bug. Ecology and behaviourWoodlice in the family Armadillidiidae are able to form their bodies into a ball shape, in a process known as conglobation. This behavior is shared with pill millipedes (which are often confused with pill bugs, armadillos and cuckoo wasps. This behavior may be triggered by stimuli such as vibrations or pressure, and is a key defense against predation; it also serves to reduce water loss through respiration. they are often seen as unwanted (but essentially harmless) home pests. Keeping a pet pill bug requires a very moist habitat with limited light. They can live for about two to three years. Owners of pet tarantulas sometimes keep pill bugs as cage cleaners in the same habitat. The pill bugs eat faeces, mound, and leftovers. They are sometimes caught and fed to pets such as lizards, but this is not recommended since those animals might become poisoned.
