Jacob Babb English 230 Teacher University of North Carolina at Greensboro 1400 Spring Garden Street. Greensboro, North Carolina 27412 Dear Mr. Babb: The intent of this letter is to briefly introduce myself as a new student in your English 230: Writing for Workplace and Public Audiences class. As a first year student I am excited to conquer the trials and tasks that will come along with taking this course. I must admit I have a knack for writing. Hence, I look forward to becoming a better and all around better writer over the course of this semester. Originally, I am from Monroe, North Carolina; while still an infant I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina approximately an hour and a half south of Greensboro. I have four siblings and am also third generation college student. I believe education is the key that establishes both a firm and stable groundwork for living a successful and prosperous life, for that reason I take education seriously. While attending Piedmont Open IB Middle School, I was a consistent A/B honor roll student. This success carried over into high school where I was able to maintain a 3.7 GPA and graduate with honors from Harry P. Harding University High School where I was a member of the National Honor Society, Drama Club and JROTC. My academic prowess was further solidified as I succeeded in passing my IB tests to place out of introductory college language arts and psychology courses. The same work ethic that brought me success throughout middle and high school will certainly serve me well in not only this class but throughout my entire college career. To counterbalance my studies I was involved in several extracurricular activities. Im a semitrained dancer and at one time was offered a scholarship by the North Carolina Dance Theatre. I also participated in track and field where I specialized in the hurdles and helped my team win the 2008 3A Division Conference title. As of late my passion has been with tennis. I have been playing for six years. At my best, I made it to both the state and regional championships my freshman and senior years in high school respectively. When not being physically active I enjoy collecting music from the sixties and seventies. From a very young age I have always been interested in human interaction. The way different genders, races and social classes intermingled with each other has always fascinated me; consequently heavily influencing my decision to major in the field of social psychology. Further, this continued interest made the seemingly unnerving task of selecting a course long central inquiry relatively easy. For the remainder of the course, my pieces will focus on how sexuality affects ones effectiveness in a professional environment.

Though modern day society is more accepting of homosexuality, it is rather remarkable how in professional environments and settings such as sports, the workplace or even professional relationships such as student-teacher it is assumed that ones sexuality will bring about an inevitable negative impact on their performance and efficiency in their respective setting. Depending on the setting, this may or may not always be the instance; thus suggesting a link of some sort between sexuality and performance proficiency. Today, homosexuality is all over both knowingly and unknowingly in all facets of the professional environment. The sheer broadness and variety this inquiry possesses makes it adaptable to almost any assignment that will be given. This inquiry combined with my exceptional writing skills should make it a vibrant and always interesting read. One of my greatest strengths as a student is my flexibility and ability to adjust to almost any situation. I enjoy learning and increasing my aptitude. Though this course will present many challenges, I am privileged to be a part of the course and am anxious to watch my confidence and writing output strengthen in quality. Im looking forward to the rest of the semester and what it brings. Sincerely,

Milik Robinson
