INTRODUCTION METHODOLOGY FINDINGS RECOMMENDATIONS CONCLUSION APPENDIX

INTRODUCTION:
Today the main problem in class room is interaction between students and teachers. Students never open their mouth even if they have doubts in that subject. This is due to several reasons. Some teachers keep on asking the students to ask some question. But still no students come forward to ask the question. This has many consequences in student's entire life. The reason we chose this topic is because we could see this situation in all classes from the first semester. Even we do that in our class. Because of this we lose our knowledge. Educational system is always based on mark basis. This really does not improve the student's skills. Education must teach all skills to students like logical reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving and things like that. To improve all these skills, asking questions in class is an important aspect.

METHODOLOGY:
We prepared 14 interesting questions to take survey. Those questions were surveyed among our college friends of different departments and years. Everyone provided very interesting and genuine answers. When we approached each person for surveying, they welcome the topic because each one in some way or the other has undergone such a problem in their classes. They enjoyed while reading those questions. They eagerly answered the questions and they wanted to open up their real concern about this issue. This situation should be changed in order to gain proper knowledge.

FINDINGS:
After conducting the survey, it is understood that nearly 80% of the surveyed students love asking questions. But only 25% of them ask questions in class. The main reason for this is FEAR and FEELING EMBARASSED. This is the case of 70% of the students. And this fear is mainly due to teachers (60%) and also because of their friends (35%). Although everyone (100%) know that asking questions in class is beneficial in some way or the other like your doubts get cleared, gain more understanding of the topic, fears get relieved, and logical reasoning increases, still the students hesitate to ask questions because of fear. This fear is because the students think that their questions may be irrelevant, communication problem- the students coming from tamil medium face this problem in large and the list goes on.

Couldn't understand the lecture

Another interesting finding is that, almost 90% of them ask questions only to their friends. And also that 90% still said that if their teachers are friendly, they will surely ask questions.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
So it is clear that every student in one way or the other has some fear within them. Be it fear of the teachers or friends, it has to be removed. Since 60% students have fear of teachers, teachers have to take necessary steps to help students come out of their fear factor. And also that, students should not mock at anyone who is asking questions. Both the student and the teacher community should join hands in overcoming this fear factor, because this may spoil the students entire life. Since students want teachers to be friendly, the teachers have to put themselves in the students shoes and teach them from students point of view. Obviously, the role of the teacher is to motivate and create interest of the subject to the students. They should not be a source of producing fear that might lead to a student losing his interest in the subject.

CONCLUSION:
Asking questions in class is an important thing. So whatever be the factors which are stopping students from asking questions should be pulled out entirely. Students should also take necessary steps in overcoming these issues. They should not always blame teachers. They should be bold enough to ask questions whether it is right or wrong. Students can go to English classes so that they could get a better communication skill if they are from Tamil medium. They should take all the possible steps to overcome this great issue.
