The symbolic ablution (tayammum), to be used when no water is available or a person cannot use water because of reasons of health. One should be in a state of purity before: Performing prayer Reading the Qur'an. The following actions or conditions nullify this state of purity and require the partial ablution: discharges from the body (urine, stools, gas) the flow of blood or pus from the body vomiting falling asleep becoming intoxicated The following actions or conditions require the full ablution: sexual intercourse wet dreams the expiration of a women's menstrual period after childbirth Wudu, the Partial Ablution 1. Declare the intention that this act is for the purpose of worship and purity. 2. Wash the hands up to the wrist 3 times. 3. Rinse out the mouth with water 3 times. 4. Cleanse the nostrils of the nose by sniffing water into them 3 times. 5. Wash the whole face 3 times with both handsfrom the top of the forehead to the bottom of the chin, from ear to ear. 6. Wash the right arm 3 times up to the top of the elbow, then wash the left arm. 7. Wipe the whole head from the forehead to the back of the neck 1 time with a wet hand. 8. With wet fingers, wipe the inner sides of the ears with the forefingers and their outer sides with the thumbs 1 time. 9. Wipe around the neck with wet hands 1 time. 10. Wipe the two feet including toes up to the ankles, 3 times, beginning with the right foot. (If shoes and socks or stockings are on and and socks or stockings have been on since last performing the ablution, it is

not within four hours, the socks or stockings should be removed and the feet washed.) Ghusl, the Full Ablution 1. Declare the intention that this act is for the purpose of worship and purity. 2. Express intent to perform Salaat (niyyat): I intend to offer _____ rakats of the ____ prayer, and face the Qibla for the sake of Allah and Allah alone. (For example: "I intend to offer the 4 rakats of the Isha prayer and face the Qibla for the sake of Allah and Allah alone.") Begin Salaat 1. Niyyat: Stand with respect and attention; put the world behind you. Bring hands to ears, palms forward, thumbs behind earlobes and say (The entire prayer must be recited in Arabic, but for your information we give

the English translation next to the Arabic transliteration) : Allahu Akbar God is great. 2. Qiyam: Place right hand over left, men below navel, women at chest level; look at the ground in front of you and recite Opening Supplication (optional): Subhaana ala humma wa bihamdika wa tabaara kasmuka wa ta'aalaa jadduka wa laa ilaaha ghairuk Glory to You, O Allah, and Yours is the praise. And blessed is Your Name, and exalted is Your Majesty. And there is no deity to be worshipped but You A'uudhu billaahi minash shaitaan ar-Rajeem I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed. 3. Fatiha: Recite aloud the Fatiha, the first surah of the Qur'an. Praise be to God, Lord of all the worlds. The Compassionate, the Merciful. Ruler on the Day of Reckoning.You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help. Guide us on the straight path, the path of those who have received your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath, nor of those who wander astray. (Amen). Info: For the first two rakats recite an additional short selection from the Qur'an after al Fatiha. 4. Ruk'u: Hands drop to sides; bend from waist, palms on knees, back parallel to ground; look at feet. (While bending:) Allahu Akbar God is great. (While bent:) Subhanna rabbiyal 'Azeem (3x) Holy is my Lord, the Magnificent. 5. Qauma: Rise from bending to standing, arms at sides. (While rising:) Sami' allaahu liman hamidah Allah listens to him who praises Him. (Response from congregation:) Rabbanaa wa lakal hamd Our Lord, to You is due all praise. (Standing straight, pause:) Allahu Akbar God is great.

6. Sudjood: Prostratehands on knees, lower slowly to kneeling position; touch forehead, nose and palms to ground (but not elbows); bend toes so tops of feet face the Qibla. Subhaana rabbiyal 'Alaa (3x) Glory to my Lord, the Most High. (Pause:) Allahu Akbar God is great. 7. Qu'ud: Rise to sitting position, looking at lap. Men turn up heel of right foot, right toes bent; women keep both feet, soles up, under body. Pause 2 Rabbigh-fir-lee My lord forgive me (Pause:)Allahu Akbar God is great.

8. Sudjood: Prostrate again. Subhaana rabbiyal 'Alaa (3x) Glory to my Lord, the Most High. (Pause:) Allahu Akbar God is great. 9. To complete every second rakat and the last rakat: out of 4 Remain seated and recite At-Tashahhud:1 At Tahiyyaatu lilaahi was Salawaatu wat tayibaatu As Salaamu 'alaika ayyuhan nabiyyu wa rahmatul laahi wa barakaatuh As Salaamu 'alainaa wa 'alaa 'ebaadillaahis saaliheen, (Hands on knees, raise right forefinger:) Ash hadu allaa ilaah ilallaah Wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhuu wa rasuuluh All greetings, blessings and good acts are from You, my Lord. Greetings to you, O Prophet, and the mercy and blessings of Allah. Peace be unto us, and unto the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. Tashahhud, & recite the Salawat: Allaahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa 'alaa ali Muhammadin Kamaa sallaita 'alaa Ibraaheema wa 'alaa ali Ibraaheema Innaka hameedun Majeed Alaahumma baarik 'ala Muhammadin wa 'alaa ali Muhammadin Kamaa baarakta 'alaa Ibraaheema wa 'alaa ali Ibraaheema Innaka hameedun Majeed O Allah, bless our Muhammad and the people of Muhammad; As you have blessed Abraham and the people of Abraham. Surely you are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious. O Allah, be gracious unto Muhammad and the people of Muhammad; As you were gracious unto Abraham and the people of Abraham. Surely you are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious. To Complete the Prayer: Look over right shoulder (toward the angel recording your good deeds), then the left (toward the angel recording your wrongful deeds); say each time:

As Salaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatulaah Peace and blessings of God be upon you. Say personal prayers with hands cupped and palms up at chest level. Wipe face with palms. Allah! There is no god but He -- the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory). In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful. Have We not expanded thee thy breast? And removed from thee thy burden That which did gall thy back? And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)? So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily, with every difficulty there is relief. Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task),still labour hard, And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention. Surah 102 At-Takthur (Competition) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Alhaa-kum at-takthur H'attaa zurtum al-maqaabir Kallaa sawfa ta'lamon Thumma kallaa sawfa ta'lamon Kallaa law ta'lamon 'ilm al-yaqeen Latarawunna al-jah-em Thumma la-tarawunna-haa 'ayn al-yaqeen Thumma la-tus'alunna yawma'idhin 'an an-na'em In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful. The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things), Until ye visit the graves. But nay, ye soon shall know (the reality). Again, ye soon shall know! Nay, were ye to know with certainty of mind, (ye would beware!) Ye shall certainly see Hell-Fire! Again, ye shall see it with certainty of sight! Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!). Surah 103 Al-'Asr (Time) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Wal 'Asr Innal insaana lafee khusr Illal ladhenna aamannu Wa 'amilus saalihaati wa tawaasau bilhaqq Wa tawaasau bis sabr In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful By (the Token of) Time (through the ages), Verily Man is in loss, Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy. Surah 107 Al-M'n (Neighbourly Kindness) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Ara ayta ladhee ukadhibu bid Deen Fa dhaalikal ladhee yadu'ul yateem Wa laa yahuddu 'alaa ta'aamil miskeen Fa wailun lilmur salleen Alladheena hum' an salaatin saahuun Alladheena hum yuraa uun Wa yamna 'uunal maa'uun In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful. Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)? Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness), And encourages not the feeding of the indigent. So woe to the worshippers Who are neglectful of their prayers, Those who (want but) to be seen (of men), But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs.

Surah 108 Al-Kauthar (Abundance) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Innaa a'atainaa kal kauthar Fasalli li rabbika wanhar Inna shaani'aka huwal abtar In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful. To thee have We granted the Fount (of Abundance). Therefore to thy Lord turn in Prayer and Sacrifice. For he who hateth thee, he will be cut off (from Future Hope). Surah 109 Al-Kafirn (The Unbelievers) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Qul yaa ayyuhal kaafiruun Laa 'abudu maa t'abuduun Walaa antum 'aabidunna maa a'abud Walaa ana 'aabidun maa 'abadttum Walaa antum 'aabiduuna maa a'abud Lakmu deenukum wa liya deen In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful. Say : O ye that reject Faith! I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.To you be your way, and to me mine. Surah 110 An-Nasr (Succour) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Idhaa jaa a' nasrullaahi wal fathu Wa ra aitan naasa yadkhuluuna fee deenil laahi afwaaja Fasabbih bi hamdi rabbika wastaghfirhu innahuu kaana tawaaba In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory, And thou dost see the people enter Allah's Religion in crowds,Celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and pray for His Forgiveness. For He is Oft-Returning (in Grace and Mercy). Surah 112 Al-Ikhlas (Purity) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Qul huwallaahu ahad Allahus samad Lam yalid wa lam yuulad Wa lamyakun lahuuu kufuwan ahad In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful. Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him. Surah 113 Al-Falaq (The Dawn) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Qul a'uudhu birabbil falaq Min sharri ma khalaq

Wa min sharri ghaasiqin idhaa waqab Wa min sharrin naffaathaati fil 'uqad Wa min sharri haasidin idhaa hasad In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful. Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn From the mischief of created things; From the mischief of Darkness as it overspreads; From the mischief of those who practise secret arts; And from the mischief of the envious one as he practises envy. Surah 114 An-Nas (Mankind) Bismillaah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem Qul a'uudhi bi rabbin naas Malikin naas Ilaahin naas Min sharril wawaasil khannas Alladhee yuwaswisu fee suduurin naas Minal Jinnati wa naas In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Merciful with the Lord and Cherisher of Mankind, The King (or The god (or judge) of Mankind,- From the mischief of Evil), who withdraws (after his whisper).
