How to pray when the end is near

It is difficult to know how to pray at certain times. Undoubtedly one of these times is when time itself comes to an end. We can never be sure how long our lives will last on this planet, but we can be sure that those who have been accepted in Gods family will have an eternity to enjoy. For those of us who have faith in God, death is just the transition between life as it is now and life everlasting.

How to pray
Nevertheless, no one likes the idea of dying, for we were not made to die but to live indefinitely. In our hearts is the desire of life, for God has placed it there: He hath made everything beautiful in its time: also he hath set eternity in their heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God hath done from the beginning even to the end. We cant fathom the purpose of Gods creation, including our own existence, but we can know that which has been revealed to us by God. One of these key revelations is that we were made for His glory, and many believers have lived a life that revealed Gods glory in them even to the point of death. In the bible we have some examples of the prayers that these courageous men and women of God prayed. Moses is one of the few men who knew in advance when the time of his death would be. God Himself told him to get ready for his departure. Moses wasnt afraid of dying he had been talking with God face to face for forty years now but he makes a final prayer for the benefit of the millions of Israelites who are about to conquer the promised land. In this prayer, after enumerating one by one the blessings that God would bestow on each tribe and recounting the many times that He had saved His people, Moses finished by saying this final admonition Happy are you, O Israel: who is like you, a people whose savior is the Lord, whose help is your cover, whose sword is your strength! All those who are against you will put

themselves under your rule, and your feet will be planted on their high places. The final words of Moses wrap up a life fully devoted to guiding Gods people and that is why Moses, even on the verge of death, keeps his eyes in the fulfillment of Gods promises.

Praying before the end is near

Immediately afterwards Moses ascends Mount Nebo from where he can see the Promised Land at large. However, he is not allowed to enter this land for he must die on that mount. Gods final words to Moses constitute an impressive epitaph that remains to this day as a witness of the character of this great man of God And the Lord said to him, This is the land about which I made an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I will give it to your seed: now I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not go in there. So death came to Moses, the servant of the Lord, there in the land of Moab, as the Lord had said. And the Lord put him to rest in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor: but no man has knowledge of his resting-place to this day. And Moses at his death was a hundred and twenty years old: his eye had not become clouded, or his natural force become feeble. Moses life was devoted to intercession on behalf of Israel. He learned how to pray to God because he prayed his whole life through, up to the time of his death.
