Should Boys Be Segregate from Girls in Schools?

Should boys and girls be taught separately? Does single-sex education is better than co-educational school? Which one type of education will boost academic success? Singlesex education means that teaching boys and girls in separate classroom or schools. While, co-educational are unisex educational settings, boys and girls can attend in same schools or classrooms. No one would have had much doubt which system was better. In religious perspective, segregation by gender is the norm. Before weighting the pros and cons of segregation by gender in school, however students learning profile and preferences is affected by many factors. Some factors are influences to the nature and nurture of the students. In example of students nature are gender, abilities, intelligence and temperament. In the other hand, the way parents and society nurture the students are influenced by family upbringing, socioeconomic status, culture and stereotypes. After weighted the pros and cons and then have decided without a doubt, boys should not being segregate from girls in school. Hence, the co-educational school is better to boost academic success. Is segregation among boys and girls student are best solutions to prevent them drawn into social problem and bring benefits to everybody? Have you ever thought that this separation also able to negative impact on the norms of our lives such as lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB)? How? According to Rosario, Schrimshaw, Hunter, Braun (2006), "the development of a LGB sexual identity is a complex and often difficult process. Unlike members of other minority groups, most LGB individuals are not raised in a community of similar others from whom they learn about their identity and who reinforce and support that identity. Rather, LGB individuals are often raised in communities that are either ignorant of or openly hostile toward homosexuality. Because, LGB consist of people who are well educated and have good family backgrounds. But, what I am trying to emphasize here is the situation and also the influence while on a school which only consists of the same sex. Studies by J. Michael Bailey and K.J. Zucker, they have found that a majority of LGB report being gendernonconforming during their childhood year. According to Richard C. Friedman, in Male Homosexuality published in 1990, writing from a psychoanalytic perspective, argues that sexual desire begins later than the writings of Sigmund Freud indicate, not in infancy but between the ages of 5 and 10 and is not focused on a parent figure but on peers. As a consequence, he reasons, homosexual men are not abnormal, never having been sexually attracted to their mothers anyway. It is mean this situation began in the school because of the environment and also due to the influence of friends. They have not been attracted to the opposite sex and are more likely to keep their feelings to each other despite the same sex. They were surrounded by people who have found a day of doing whatever the activity, including in the academic competition. Convey some of them who do not know or feel the loving presence of a woman other than their mothers. Motivation and learning environment in the single-sex education school shows natural differences in how boys and girls learn. In single-sex school, there is no competition between boys and girls because they are influenced by their nature that is the same; gender, abilities,

intelligence and temperament. Moreover, in co-educational school, the nature of both gender are totally different. Hence, these will encourages competition between boys and girls if boys are not being segregate from girls in school. Naturally, competitive spirit that automatically existed in exams will encourage both genders to do their best and will compete against each other. Even the lazy students will also pull up their socks and they would not want to be left behind, when everybody is vying to be the best. The school will see dramatically improved academic results, as everybody is working harder to obtain better grades. When they see that everyone is progressing ahead, they will lose out if they do not go along. That is the main source of motivation for students to work hard. All these points are supported by Leonard Sax statement, founder of the National Association for Single-Sex Public Education, whenever girls and boys are together, their behavior inevitably reflects the larger society in which they live. What about the notion about in single-sex school boys and girls feel free to be themselves and to follow their interests and talents without cause anxiety. Studies have been published by Vivienne Hayes on the topic about The pros and cons of single-sex schools, in Articles Base website claiming that the boys and girls in co-educational schools are still diligent, motivated and focused in class. But is that the point? They are actually able to think outside the box and able to show initiative when they are defy each other. This shows that co-educational schools can encourage beneficial competition between both genders because they are challenged and challenging. Co-educational on the basis that it is more realistic to everyday life when Robinson and Smithers (1999) state, It has been suggested that educating the sexes together is more like real life and the experience of growing up with the opposite sex makes it easier to move on to the mixed environments of university and employment. The problems are studying in the single-sex school would not benefit the students to obtain social skills. Furthermore, students in co-educational school will get benefit from exposure to the other gender. In coeducational environment, both genders get to interact with each other. Therefore, they can learn to understand each other better because they get a different perspective of things as well. In addition, the shyest student will feel comfortable with the opposite gender and can soon work together normally with the interaction in class. We argue that student with social problems suffer greatly and those with the best developed social skills have great advantages. It is difficult for students to get to know other people in the community if they are not able to hang out at school. The answer is, student with high social skills use their ability to get closer to the low social student with cheerful and friendly introducing. Call that low social student wit cheer nickname so that he or she will give attention to them and start to speak frequently. These will broke down the wall between them all. However, the community center or a teen hang out spot in the community help out with the issue. This place is very good to iron out all the problems. Then, this is suitable place to play some friendship encouragement games such as Dare Game and True or False Game. In single sex schools, social problems between boys and girls such as violence, drug abuse, and teenage pregnancy can be controlled. While in co-ed schools boys and girls have social intercourse between each other, but it is not mean they are involve in this social problems. Otherwise, we thinks co-ed schools promote better behavior. Boys are naturally rough by nature and girls more gentle. When both sexes interact, the boys tend to tone down their behavior so that the girls will be friends with them. So, the students will be more mature and behave in a more politically-correct fashion! On the other hand, in single sex schools, girls also can be a leader among them because no shamefulness. One mother, whose

daughter has attended a girls-only school for three years, shares her experiences on the Great schools parent community: I feel that the single gender environment has given her a level of confidence and informed interest in math and science that she may not have had otherwise. This argument is not logic because girls also can be leader if she studying in coed schools. The girls just must have a self confidence and remove the embarrassing feeling. Actually, both genders have the same opportunities in being a leader. It just depends on the willingness, ability and belief in self. Furthermore some parents do not want their children to be in mixed gender because, especially at the certain ages, students of the opposite sex can be a distraction in academic. It is not true because boys with more girl peers in their classes show higher achievement rates in academic. "Being with more girls is good for everybody," says Prof. Analia Schlosser, an economist from the Eitan Berglas School of Economics at Tel Aviv University. "We find that both boys and girls do better when there are more girls in the class. She investigated girls and boys in mixed classrooms in the elementary, middle, and high-school grades of the Israeli school system.
