The man behind Louis M. Martini Luxury Lot Cabernet Sauvignon wines!
BY MONICA L. DASHWOOD
LOUIS M. MARTINI WINERY Open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reservations are recommended for tours, but not required. 254 St. Helena Highway, St. Helena CA 94574 (707) 963-2736 | www.louismartini.com
Michael Martini, third-generation winemaker keeps the family tradition alive with his range of exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon wines. At Louis M. Martini winery, just off Highway 29 in St. Helena, Michael Martini continues his fathers, and grandfathers pioneering talents, bringing his vast experience and old world, European influence to his wines. Growing up on family vineyards, Michael Martini got a hands-on education in the art of crafting world-class wines, developing his own style of balance and rich texture to the Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon blends. He formally studied viticulture at the University of California, Davis, immersing himself in a worldrenowned winemaking program. After graduation, in 1977, Michael worked closely alongside his father, Louis P Martini, before taking . the reins as winemaker. In 1981, wanting international experience, Michael traveled throughout France with legendary California winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff to explore artisan winemaking techniques in Bordeaux and Burgundy. Today, much of what Michael learned in France has been applied in Cellar 254, the micro-winery that is steps away from his office in St. Helena. Here, Mike and his team of winemakers make small lots of hand-crafted Cabernet Sauvignon. Michael Martini takes pride in the Lot wines, dating back to 1968 when Louis P Martini, first made luxury Cabernet Sauvignon wines . from selected barrels which he named by lot numbers. Michael continues his fathers tradition, crafting these distinguished wines from Napa Valley mountain and benchland vineyards to produce, for example, an exceptional bottle of Louis M. Martini 2009 Lot No. 1 Cabernet Sauvignon. Full bodied and complex, the Louis M. Martini 2009 Lot No. 1 Cabernet Sauvignon is a favorite of not only Michael Martinis but consumers alike. This exceptional wine captures the essence of Napa Valleys distinctive terroir. The opulent ruby color alludes to the deep, intense dark fruit flavors of blackberry and plum. Rich aromas and flavors of black cherry and cassis are framed by toasted sweet oak notes and hints of chocolate and brown spice. Velvety, plush tannins give this wine a full, luxurious mouth-feel and a long, elegant finish of concentrated fruit and spice. The 2009 Napa Valley Lot No. 1 Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in 100 percent French oak barrels, 94 percent of which was new and 6 percent used, for a total of 21 months. As with the Lot No. 1 wine, what matters most to Michael when making the perfect wine is the location and says so himself. First off, the wine needs to have a sense of place, whether that is terroir

driven, by an individual vineyard, or a broader appellation driven like our Napa Valley or Sonoma County wines. There is a reason that information is on the label. Second, the wine needs to have balance. All of the components need to play in harmony the acids, the tannins, the flavors and aromas. There is no magic in the aging process thus if you want balance in the end, you need it in the beginning. Since 1906, the Martini family has been making delicious wines, but even with those years of experience behind them, its not easy. Winemaking is a great challenge, says Michael Martini. The vineyards are the greatest challenge because they control the quality of the wine. Whether it is the weather or mans viticultural practices, you have to start with good fruit. The second biggest challenge is patience. Wine requires a lot of it. Mother nature takes her time to resolve many of the balance issues in the wine, which requires us to have the patience to allow this to happen. As to what Michael loves about making wine? Its is a living, moving target. No two years are alike as no two wines are really alike, so every individual wine is its own challenge. Like raising children each needs to be catered to their individual personalities to make them the best human being possible. With Michael working under that Born this Way philosophy, letting nature takes its course and honoring the uniqueness of each blend, you know the wines made under his supervision have to taste just right. I want people who drink my wines to have a pleasant experience that they want to come back to, time and time again, offers Michael.

At 112 Years Old, BV Is a Napa Valley Must See
BY JOSH STEIN
BEAULIEU VINEYARD Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 1960 Saint Helena Highway Rutherford, CA 94573 (707) 967-5233 | www.bvwines.com BV is also part of the Heritage Wine Trail from Carneros to Calistoga. Visit www.heritagewinetrail.com for more details.
During a wine tasting at Beaulieu Vineyard, you will not only experience todays great wines, you will also gain an understanding of how the wine business has evolved in the past fifty years and in the fifty years before that. In 1900, Georges and Fernande de Latour visited Rutherford, which Fernande declared a beau lieu, or beautiful place. Georges founded Beaulieu Vineyard in the red dust of Rutherford to create wines as great as, or even greater than, Frances best. BV was able to stay in business during Prohibition by producing sacramental wine for San Franciscos Catholic churches. In 1938, Georges brought Andr Tchelistcheff to the BV team. Known as the Maestro, Andr was arguably the winemaker most responsible for the Napa style made so famous in the 1970s and 1980s. Among many innovations, he introduced cold fermentation for white wines, secondary malolactic fermentation via inoculation for reds and the use of small French oak barrels for aging. He also produced Napas first cult wine, the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Since that time, BV has continued to innovate. In 2008, a winery-within-a-winery was created to craft the small-lot reserve bottlings. This strategy, like many others pioneered by BV, has been emulated by a number of other wineries. BV produces a wide range of wines. Besides the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the Reserve series offers Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot
26
Noir and the Tapestry red blend. The BV Napa flight includes Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, while the Beaulieu Vineyard Maestro Collection presents limited-production releases of Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat Canelli, Merlot and Pinot Gris. BV Coastal Estates goes further afield to present Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Riesling from exceptional coastal vineyards. In addition to private tastings, the winery offers a number of tasting experiences. In the Maestro Tasting Room, named for Tchelistcheff, small-lot, handcrafted releases available only at the winery are poured. The Reserve Tasting Room, adjacent to the cellar and tanks, houses the Library Collection of wines, dating back to 1970, and pours Reserve bottlings and Georges de Latour Private Reserve. The recently opened Heritage Room, which houses a number of historically significant artifacts, pays tribute to the Prohibition era in the valley, while the Historic Tour and Barrel Tasting provides a view into production practices and the changes brought about by cellaring wines in barrel. In addition to tastings, BV hosts many events throughout the year, including barbecues, release parties, harvest events and cellar sales. At the Annual Older Vintage Tasting, to be held this year on November 3, take advantage of the rare opportunity to taste and purchase wines from the renowned Beaulieu Vineyard Older Vintage Library Collection. Special vintages from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s will be available. Ultimately, a visit to BV provides winelovers with a sense of the past, present and future of Napa Valley wine. If you have visited BV before, visit again in the spirit of George de Latour and Andr Tchelistcheff, the winery continues to be a leader in innovation. If you have never been, you owe it to yourself to go. At Beaulieu Vineyard, the last century of the Napa Valley co-exists and thrives with Napas next century of great wines. Go and enjoy you will be glad you did!
Come and experience the history and pastoral setting with picnic grounds, a bocce court and a horse shoe pit.

Keeping the Focus on Great Wine in Carneros

BOUCHAINE VINEYARDS Open daily 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 1075 Buchli Station Road, Napa, CA 94559 (707) 252-9065 | www.bouchaine.com
A visit to Bouchaine Vineyards, the oldest continually operating winery and southernmost vineyards in the Carneros region, brings you full-circle within the valleys winemaking history. First planted by Boon Fly in the mid-nineteenth century, the property, like much of the Carneros District, was forgotten about until the end Prohibition when the property was purchased by Johnny Garetto in 1927. After Repeal, he operated the first winery with a tasting room in the Carneros region. Garetto sold the winery to Beringer Brothers in 1951, who used the winery for thirty harvests. In 1981, Tatiana and Gerret Copeland, a successful business couple from Wilmington, Delaware, fell in love with the property, and thus began the modern-day revitalization which greets visitors today. An almost total renovation took time but was completed in 1995, updating and refurbishing the entire winemaking facility and visitor spaces. Guests are now greeted by the production facilities laid out within the surrounding vineyards such that the rest of the valley is forgotten about. What surrounds you are vineyards, views and breezes and not much else, the way Carneros was at the beginning. You will also see a sign that says that pets are welcome by appointment. Since between two and four winery pups inhabit the spacious property, the Bouchaine folks are sensitive to the fact that not all canines get along with each other. Your own is welcome (on a leash); just call first and they will take care of everything else. Its not just the casual atmosphere and attitude which harken back to Carneros history. The wood that covers the winery buildings comes from old fermentation tanks which were
28
removed and soaked until they could be straightened. Winemaking history is literally in the walls. Inside, the light-filled tasting room gives a cozy embrace, complete with wood-burning fireplace, necessary much of the year because of the direct proximity to San Pablo Bay. Outside, there is a redwood deck and pergola which face gardens, a well-trimmed lawn with a horseshoe pit and olive trees with vineyards just a few yards beyond, stretching away in all directions. What really matters most, of course, is the wine, and visitors can taste a lot of wonderful bottlings, including a number of tasting room-only releases in their Bacchus and Estate Collection Wines. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir star, here, of course, given the locale, but there are also bottlings of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Meunier, an especially rare solo varietal. Equally, dont miss the Ros of Syrah from the Rockin H Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast, the Sonoma
Syrah and a delicious dry Riesling. As every staff member will tell you, all are made to show off cool-climate grapes and winemaking, which produces elegant wines made for food. Winemaker Michael Richmond puts it best: We want our wines to show lingering flavors and depth, a smooth texture and just the right level of acidity to pair with many foods, from the simple to the sublime. There are lots of things to enjoy at Bouchaine Vineyards, but several experiences really set them apart. For those seeking food-andwine fun, there is a special basket of wine country treats to pair with the outdoor seating area and vineyard views. Each basket includes lunch alfresco for two served with a bottle of wine, either the Estate Chardonnay or Carneros Pinot Noir. Multiple baskets can even be ordered for larger groups. Its that attention to the little things that will bring you back to Bouchaine Vineyards again and again as it has for visitors for a century and half. Enjoy!

Where Unique Folks Go to Make and Enjoy Great Wines

When I first moved to Napa, people told me all the characters were gone from the Valley, having died or moved elsewhere or gotten out of the business, that the coming of the corporate age heralded the end of idiosyncratic winegrowing and tasting experiences. Well, Im here to tell you that iconoclasty is alive and well just a short drive north of the city of Napa, so close, in fact, that by the time youre ready to shift into fourth gear, youll be braking to pull into the world of Razi Winery. As you cross their bridge over the Napa Creek, you enter the rarefied, oftenoverlooked environs of micro wine production. Named for its owner, architect Fred Razi, Razi Winery grew out of a hobby, which became a very expensive hobby after he purchased and began to replant the vineyard to Chardonnay and built the barrel cellar and winery itself. The result, though, is an integrated, sleek and modern layout which works well with the landscape rather than against it. Because the winery is small and Fred Razi lives onsite, the design includes his home, pool and landscaped grounds, and guests often taste with either the owner or the winemaker, getting a personal discussion of the wines and their production. It is a unique opportunity to taste very limited production wines (some as low as fifty cases) from a number of different producers in an estate setting rather than a busy collective. Whether its on the patio feet from the ten-acre Chardonnay vineyard which provides fruit not just for Razi but several other well-known Valley producers or sitting on bar stools at their steeltopped tasting counter looking out the window at the vines, the Razi tasting experience puts the emphasis on tasting the products of winegrowing. In addition to the Razi wines, a rotating collection of client releases, including those produced by Razis winemaker, are also poured, making each visit something new. And, given the small case numbers and location-specific wines on offer, theres always a never-seen-again release or two awaiting, which is part of the idea behind the Silverado Trail ethos of the road less travelled. As Fred will more than likely tell you himself when you go, This is a unique environment where one can become absorbed in wine and food pairings while receiving an education based on different appellations and terroirs. So, please, come and enjoy! Do yourself a favor and give them a call to give yourself some time well spent away from the ordinary, enjoying the extra-ordinary, a part of the modern Napa Valley most people never look for or find. Youll be glad you did enjoy!

Caldwells Kreuzer Canyon. All of their wines are made in relatively small lots, from 330 to 1750 cases, and are the result of the efforts of master winemaker Kirk Venge, named one of the top twenty young winemakers in the world. There are a large number of tasting options available. The Special Celebration Tasting is for groups of nine to 25 and includes a private tour of the grounds and cellar and ends in the Salon for a Flagship Tasting accompanied by B-Bites, as they call their mini seasonal pairing of food and wine.

Baldacci Family Vineyards

A new addition to the winery is the Cellar Reserve Room, with thick stone walls for a memorable tasting in a venue that is both rustic and refined.
BALDACCI FAMILY VINEYARDS Open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. by appointment 6236 Silverado Trail, Napa CA 94558 (707) 944-9261 | www.baldaccivineyards.com Theyre also on Facebook and twitter.
It might be an understatement to call the two harvests prior to the 2012 crush interesting, or even problematic. But this year has gone a long way to bringing smiles to the grape growers and winemakers. Weather cooperated, rain stayed away and temperatures were as they should be. And, no one is happier than Baldacci Family Vineyards Rolando Herrera. Herrera has been winemaker at Baldacci since the 2003 vintage. With a deep knowledge of Stags Leap wines and vineyards having been involved with the region for almost 20 years he uses that knowledge to produce premium wines at this small family-owned winery on the Silverado Trail. He began his career at Stags Leap Wine Cellars where he spent a decade, the last seven years as cellar master. He gathered additional experience at Chateau Potelle in the Mayacamas Mountains high above the Valley floor and at Vine Cliff Winery. He also had his own winemaking consulting firm before joining Paul Hobbs Wines in 2001. He also produces wines for his personal label, Mi Sueo. When I started talking to Baldacci about coming to work for them, he said, I was very excited because I wanted to get back to the vineyards of the Stags Leap District. These are the wines I know and love the best they have a unique texture and style recognized everywhere as making the very finest Cabernet Sauvignon. In a way, I feel as if Ive came full circle, because I started my career here. The winery is the realization of the dream of Tom and Brenda Baldacci, one that began to come together with the purchase of this 17 acre property in 1997. From the very beginning, the winery has combined a passion for winemaking with the tradition of family. The tasting room fits in perfectly. Its like being in a private wine cellar of a friends home, in this case a restored Napa farm house. The terrace is also charming, as is the pathway to the humidity and naturally temperature controlled caves. As you sit outdoors and sample the wine, look across the vineyards that are at the core of the winerys estate Cabernet Sauvignon program. Here, grapes reach their maximum potential. It is a wine that shows the commitment to both family and quality in the IV Sons Cabernet Sauvignon. For one thing it recognizes the four Baldacci sons. Then there are the four elements: Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and aging in French and American oak barrels. The result is a wine filled with fig and black cherry nuances. Other wines wearing the Baldacci label are Pinot Noir and more Cabernet Sauvignon. The Allwin Syrah is another favorite, as is the limited-production Gewrztraminer and a wine that never fails to delight: the Chardonnay. But then, you really need to visit to decide.

Andretti Winery Signs Chef Athena Palombi to LItalia in Vigneto Culinary Program
Andrettis Napa Valley winery showcases the Mediterranean lifestyle
Known for its majestic setting and elegant, Tuscan-inspired estate, Andretti Winery continues its tradition of producing great wine in the Cal-Ital style and creating memorable experiences. With the addition of Chef Athena Palombi, the winery adds an exceptional talent whose culinary expertise will enhance its dining program year-round. Founded by legendary race car driver Mario Andretti, the winery estate is home to a 42-acre vineyard, winery, barrel-aging chai and an Italianate dining room, in which Chef Athena Palombi, will create dinners and lunches all paired with signature Andretti wines. We are thrilled to have Athena Palombi on-board, commented founder Mario Andretti. Her style and approach, and her natural talent in creating wonderful meals to be paired with great wines are exactly what Andretti stands for. This all reminds me of my boyhood home in Italy and what is so wonderfully appealing about the Mediterranean lifestyle which we share with friends and visitors here at Andretti Winery every day. A veteran of local television and Food Networks Chef Wanted as well as the kitchens of several great chefs, Athena Palombi is known for her unpretentious approach to preparing top-flight seasonal cuisine. I call it elegant peasant or rustic Mediterranean, said Palombi. My family roots, both Greek and Italian, have had a strong influence as I channel them through each of my dishes. At Andretti, Chef Palombi will be creating dinners and lunches throughout the year, all paired with Andretti wines. Andretti Winery is renowned for its portfolio of fine wines featuring traditional regional varietals, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, as well as luxury Italian varietals, Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Dolcetto.
Athenas cuisine is an ideal complement to our portfolio, commented Joe Antonini, Chairman and Cofounder of Andretti. Her appreciation of local ingredients, her passion for quality and her understanding of the pure pleasure of sitting around a table with friends and sharing a great meal is what we are all about. A sample dinner menu might include a first course of Gamberi alla Griglia con Lardo e Insalata di Lenticchie (Lardo wrapped grilled Prawns on top of a warm Lentil Salad), second course of Risotto ai Finferli al Tartuffo Bianco (Chantarelle Risotto with White Truffle), third course of Agnello al Forno e Patate (Roasted Leg of Lamb and with Rosemary and Garlic served with Potatoes) and dessert of Vino Cotto di Fichi con Torta di Formaggio (Wine poached figs served on top of a Ricotta Cheesecake), all paired with Andretti wines. At Andretti, dinner is served at 7 p.m., and lunch at noon. The price for dinner is $125 per person; lunch is $95 per person, both with a maximum of 16 guests. Upcoming dinner dates are Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 15. Check the website for upcoming lunch dates. Events are private and by appointment only. To make reservations, call Tenaya at 1-888-460-8463 Ext. 229. Reservations should be made at least 48 hours prior to requested dates. Welcome to
CALISTOGA
For all of Napa Valleys world-renown as a wine-tasting destination, did you know that the valley also has one of only three Old Faithful geysers in the world? Located at the north end of the valley in Calistoga, Old Faithful makes for a fun and fascinating afternoon stop between wineries. About every 30 minutes, visitors to the geysers are treated to a firstrate show an eruption of steam and extremely hot water spraying 60 to 100 feet in the air. The term Old Faithful refers to geysers that erupt on regular intervals. Water for the Old Faithful Geyser of California comes from an underground river. When this water flows over the hot molten magma deep in the earth, it boils, expands and then collects in large cavities. Under tremendous pressure from the heat, the superheated water is forced through the fractures and erupts with an outpouring of steam followed by hot spewing water. Old Faithful is surrounded by palm trees and thick bamboo, making for a relaxing and partially shaded setting. There are picnic tables with umbrellas and a covered seating area, all with excellent views of the geyser. The gift shop is stocked with snacks such as ice cream bars, chips and a variety of drinks, or if you want to make it a lunch stop, bring in a picnic lunch from town and a bottle of wine from one of the nearby wineries! Dont miss some of the other interesting features at Old Homewood Winery Faithful. Check out the wishing wells that were once used as hot mineral therapy pools. Theres also an informative exhibit area on geyser eruptions and earthquake predictions, as well as a brief history of the town of Calistoga. And best of all, theres a petting zoo with Tennessee Fainting Goats, Jacobs Four Horn Sheep and Guard Llamas.
Old Faithful Geyser of California is located at 1299 Tubbs Lane in Calistoga. The gift shop is a great place to find unique Old Faithful and Napa Valley themed souvenirs, including mugs, shot and wine glasses, postcards, T- shirts and sweatshirts in adult and child sizes, hats and visors, keychains, water bottles, pens and much more. Old Faithful is open daily year round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the winter and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $3 for kids ages six to 12 and children under age six are free.

More than 100 winery members will be participating from the Wine Road Northern Sonoma County in Alexander, Dry Creek, Russian River valleys in Sonoma County. Cost is $70 for November 3 and 4 (both days); $50 for Sunday, November 4 only and $30 for designated drivers for November 3 and 4. All ticket types include the Tasting Along the Wine Road cookbook. Ticket sales are non-refundable. The event takes place rain or shine! MARTIN RAY WINERY Open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 2191 Laguna Road in Santa Rosa just 7 miles west of Highway 101 (707) 823-2404 | www.martinraywinery.com
The secret is finally out about Martin Ray Winery, the small west Sonoma County winery that is racking up gold medals for its wines almost quicker than the 13 minutes it takes to drive there from Highway 101. Yes indeed, Martin Ray is now proudly displaying the coveted plaque for the Best White Wine in Sonoma County for 2012. Competing against hundreds of other wines (many two and three times the price), Martin Rays 2011 Angeline Russian River Sauvignon Blanc was recently named the Sweepstakes White Wine at the prestigious Sonoma County Harvest Fair. At just $15 retail, this Sauvignon Blanc will wow you for this level of quality at a stock up now price. Its a simply delicious wine, with lovely fruit character and all of the zip and zing you would expect from the varietal. Its perfect as an everyday quaffer for the backyard or porch, or to pair with light appetizers, cheese course or fish or salad entrees. Winery proprietor Courtney Benham purchased the Martin Ray brand in 1990 after discovering 1,500 cases of Martin Ray wines dating back 40 years in an old warehouse in San Jose. Benham has since put his focus squarely on building a brand known for its quality, consistency and continuity. Not only has Martin Ray achieved quality, consistency and continuity, but the quality comes at a price that make these wines ideal for guilt-free, daily enjoyment. The Best of Class-winning Rose of Pinot Noir is likely be sold out by now, but visitors can still stock up on the sweepstakes-winning Angeline Sauvignon Blanc, gold-medal-winning Martin Ray Russian River Chardonnay ($20) and double-gold-winner Russian River Valley Pinot Noir ($30). And for serious collectors, Martin Ray has as impressive a vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon program as you will find in Sonoma County. Sourcing Cabernet from some of the best vineyards in California, the winerys current offerings include Cabs from Santa Cruz Mountains, Sonoma Mountain, and Stags Leap and Diamond Mountain, both in Napa Valley. The winery has recently released a Bordeaux-style blend, Synthesis, a wine that can be enjoyed now or laid down for many years. In 2003, Benham purchased the historic Martini & Prati Winery in west Santa Rosa as the winery home for both wine production and public visits. In the tasting room, youll find a fun and friendly staff excited to introduce you to what youve been missing out on. Some of the wines at Martin Ray are small-production, vineyard designates available only in the tasting room. The regular tasting is complimentary; reserve tasting is $5 (refundable with purchase). The property has a fantastic new wine pavilion which should be available for events in the near future.

Sonoma Plaza, a National Historic Landmark, is originally home to the last of the chain of 21 California missions. Throughout its colorful history including the Bear Flag Revolt where the California state flag was first raised in 1842 the small-town epicenter is now home to some 25 gourmet dining establishments, 40 boutique shops and art galleries as well as 18 unique tasting rooms. A well-known tourist destination, visitors come to Sonoma to experience the idyllic Wine Country lifestyle. Sure, doublewide tractors may grace the two-lane Highway 12, wide-open ranchlands blanket the valley between towns, and wooly sheep keep weeds and grasses minimal in the vineyards. But, no doubt, you will also find countless award-winning wineries and world-class restaurants in Sonoma. Sonoma is all about life, about taste and enjoying each day.

With the arrival of November, the pace of life impossibly quickens. How could it get any crazier, we wonder, as the impending holidays drive us inexorably forward as if smacked by an invisible whip. Some vineyards will still be hanging fruit, awaiting the final pick of the season, while others will be thankfully pressing off last fermentations into barrel, ready to put a fork in the 2012 harvest, pop the cork and commence celebrating. Its been quite a season, with great yields, good chemistry and outstanding flavors. We cant wait to begin barrel tasting after the wines get through malolactic. This year brought a particularly bountiful harvest to Loma Prieta, where they picked nearly seven tons of estate Pinot Noir, along with two tons of estate Pinotage. This high elevation site, at 2600 ft, is the only vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains to grow both of these varietals. Loma Prieta also sourced another 23 tons of awesome looking Pinotage from the Amarosa Vineyard in Lodi and the Karma Vineyard in Amador. Stay tuned for the Pinotage Release Party, December 1 and 2. Meanwhile, Burrell School holds its Fall Sippers Club party on November 3rd and 4th, and a Cellar Alumni Sale on November 23rd through 25th, where there are sure to be some fascinating older vintages to revisit.

The Singing Winemaker will take you on a journey with Great Wine, Great Music and a Great Experience
A unique tasting experience celebrating Truth, Beauty and Goodness through Wine, Music and Art!
Open FridaySunday from 12 to 5pm Extended hours often in the summer. Private tasting and pairings are oered by appointment.
www.thesingingwinemaker.com
Music and wine lovers can have the both of best worlds by tasting musically inspired wines with live music by the singer/winemaker who goes by the name: The Singing Winemaker (aka Steve Powell). Steves signature wines are his red varietals but he offers every type of wine ranging from Dolcissimo, a musical term meaning very sweetly for a Cabernet Sauvignon blush; a white Scherzando, (musical term for playful) for his, light summer white wine; a tawny Port; a late harvest Zin dessert wine along with peach, raspberry and almond sparkling wines. We focus on red but provide wine for all palates, there is something in the tasting room for everyone, he said. We have great wines and the best wine tasting experience. The Singing Winemaker has not released a new red wine in a year, so this summer he is back in action, releasing six wines. Each will have a release party during the summer with wine and food pairings for guests and of course, music for every age and taste performed by The Singing Winemaker. Many of his wines have musical names including his Harmony blend made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Old Vine Zinfandel. The Singing Winemakers popular Melody which is a blend of Malbec and Tempranillo is always a crowd pleaser along with another favorite, Amador County Barbera, which is a robust Italian varietal.
