ASSIGNMENT QUESTION Name at least four system utilities and explain them.

1. System Utility: It is software or a program, which may perform one of the following functions: a. It may help to analyze the computer. b. It may help to configure the computer. c. It may help to optimize the computer. d. It may help to maintain the computer. 2. Characteristics of a System Utility: a. Maintenance/Diagnostics: System Utilities monitors the system settings and level to ensure that nothing goes wrong. If something goes wrong then the System Utility informs the user about it and it allows the user to respond to the problem by taking a suitable action. b. Repair/Recovery: System Utilities helps to recover and repair data in case when the system goes through an event causing data loss or when it crashes. c. Optimization: System Utilities help to optimize the system performance. It ensures that the system is running at its full capacity. For this purpose it takes any part of the system and refines it according to the standard. d. Ease of Use: System utilities are easy to use for everybody regardless of the users level of computer usage. They are easy to be understood without reading any specific user guide. e. Help & Support:

System Utilities help to resolve all the problems related to system and have wide range of support and help options as well as features which meet the users requirements. 3. Four System Utilities: Below are the four System Utilities with explanation: a. Eusing Free Registry Cleaner It is a system utility which falls under the category of registry cleaners. It is compatible with all of the Windows operating systems (OS). It has a simple users friendly interface. With few clicks, it cleans and repairs the systems registry problems. The damaged registry of windows can cause error and instability in the system. Eusing Free Registry Cleaner fixes the entire problem, which results in stability of the system. On the other hand, it creates a backup of repaired entries which helps the user to restore the system to the state before it was not cleaned. It is free of spywares, malwares and ad-wares. This System Utility safely scans windows for an invalid or an obsolete. Unused File Extensions, , Invalid ActiveX, Missing Shared Dlls, ,Invalid Help Files , Invalid Paths , Sound and App Events ,Obsolete start menu order ,Invalid Fonts , Invalid application paths , Invalid startup programs , Invalid custom controls , Missing Shortcut reference , Obsolete Software Key , Invalid Installer reference , Missing File and Folder etc. are the type of files or components dealt with Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. It also searches for windows registry key left by some softwares/applications which are left over by deleted files or uninstalled applications causing error or occupying space. Thus it improves systems performance and makes the system stable.

b. UnRAR for Windows 2.0 It is a system utility which falls under the category of file compression and extraction system utilities. It is one of the popular system utility, compatible for windows 2000, XP, Vista or higher versions. It performs special function to open the compressed files which are in rar format (*.rar). Among many utilities which are for the same purpose, UnRAR for windows 2.0 has a special feature that it opens the password protected compressed files as well. It has very high extraction speed. Thus it is very useful software. It is very simple and easy to use. The user operates in 3 simple steps i.e. selects the compressed file with using select button, then selects the destination where the compressed files are to be extracted and after that presses the go button to start and complete the operation. It supports the multi part .rar files. It also enables user to see what type of files are inside the compressed file as well as displays the comments , date, size and other attributes of the files.

c. Data Disc Recovery 0.9.9.10 It is a popular System Utility which falls under the category of System Disc / Drive Utilities. It is compatible with all the operating systems (OS). It is used to recover the lost data from computer regardless of the type of system i.e. NTFS, FAT, FAT32, Compressed NTFS etc. It is a very useful system utility, uses very high standard techniques to recover data. In addition, it has several additional elements in it. It performs a quick system scan of every file through its high speed disc scanner. It has a very efficient scanning algorithm option, with the use of which it absorbs all information regarding data from hard drive in 2 to 10 minutes, even for the huge size partitions of disc/drive. The user can recover the lost data by pressing shift-delete. Another useful feature is that it allows user to recover any data fragments from hard drive and list Hard disk data or simply disc data by searching it quickly from the hard drive.

d. AMV MP4 Player Ver.3.64 Video Converter It is the most popular System Utility nowadays, which is on demand. It is compatible with Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista or higher versions of windows. It requires Direct X 9.0 or higher and Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher. This System Utility allows the user to convert AVI ,VOB ,RM ,MPEG1 ,MPEG2 ,WMV ,MPEG ,ASF ,MOV ,RM , Ram ,Rmvb ,MPG and Dat to AMV file format which are smaller in size as compared to other formats such as DVD or VCD's. The files are in low resolution and have low frame rate, and they also have a very low compression ratio. It allows user to transcode videos in 4 sizes i.e. 94x64, 128x96, 128x128 and 160x120, typically set to frame rates of 8, 12 and 16 frames per second. This helps the user to play video files in those MP4 players which support the AMV format such as in Apple IPod Nano.
