use by Statesman Journal Editorial Board members in evaluating candidates for potential endorsements in the Nov. 6 General Election. Your answers also will be shared with reporters and may be published in the print newspaper and on StatesmanJournal.com. If you completed our questionnaire for the primary season, youll notice that some requested information is similar. We ask you to provide it again in case any of your previous data or answers have changed. (If you cant find a copy of your previous answers, let us know and well gladly send one.) Have you ever been convicted of a crime, been disciplined by a professional licensing board/organization or had an ethics violation filed against you? If so, please give the details. No 2. Why should people vote for you? What separates you from your opponent(s)? I have 10 years of experience as a legislator and believe I can continue to represent District 20 in the Oregon House effectively and responsibly. 4. What are the three most important issues you would address if elected? How? (75 words for each
issue)

A. Keep trying to stabilize our tax system by sending to the voters a kicker reform proposal which will both protect the taxpayers and improve our ability to weather the economic seesaw. B. Balance the next biennial budget, which will be very difficult without further cuts to services or tax increases. According to the state economist, the next biennial budget will be our most difficult as the recession shows no signs of abating. Our revenue picture is flat lined and expenses in healthcare and pension obligations continue to climb. C. Grow jobs by strategic investment in the technologies and natural resources which give Oregon an edge. This may not be a large financial investment but an alignment of policies to encourage growth which shows the best promise for Oregon. A good example is the OregonInc effort which was started in 2005 and is now producing innovative wave energy technology advancements which put Oregon in the lead on a global scale. 5. What do you see as other important issues? Costs of government driven by healthcare and pension costs Oregons particular problems with drugs, poverty and hunger Local government breakdowns in rural areas, lack of jobs in much of the state

6. How would you describe your political style or for judicial candidates, your judicial temperament? Practical, task driven, collaborative, and independent in thinking. 7. If you are an incumbent, what have you achieved during your current term? If you are not an incumbent, how have you prepared yourself for this position? This past session I was active in passing a number of important pieces of legislation as co-chair of the Revenue Committee including a re-connection to the federal tax code, a complex revamping of the states business energy tax credit system, and a rewrite of the estate tax code. 8.
