Dear Friends and Family! On September 2, 2012, Ben married Megan Vaughan. Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Ben Giesbrecht Many Years! It was a joyous time for our family to witness the marriage and see commitment to eternal love. The Orthodox wedding ceremony had many wonderful and meaningful symbolic traditions. One of my favorite parts was The Crowing. The crowns are the signs of the glory and honor with which God crowns them during the Mystery. The groom and the bride are Matt & Sarah (Sheryls son-in-law and daughter), crowned as the king and queen of their own little kingdom. The Megan & Ben Giesbrecht and Sheryl celebrate. crowns used in the Orthodox wedding service also refer to the crowns of martyrdom since every true marriage involves immeasurable selfsacrifice on both sides. The next day, I read in my Jesus Lives devotional an interesting discussion about endurance the crown of life. I was enthralled by the picture of sacrifice in the Orthodox wedding service. The similarities in marriage are many, as are the parallels in life. Self-sacrifice is obedience. Obedience is an act of love by faith. James 1:12 says, Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. So as we persevere through our trials and triumphs, our labor is not in vain. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. I Peter 5:4. By the time you receive this letter, I will be in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, beginning a ten day teaching trip. From there I go on to Kenya to teach for two weeks at ATS Kitale. The third weekend, Ill be at International Council meetings in Uganda. Im sending along a detailed schedule and team prayer card. I need your prayers. I will be In Africa for one month, so I ask for your prayers for me and my family. I look forward to our heavenly crowning service, dont you? Thank You!
