Terriers Have High Expectations this Season


by Kateyn Kelleher Rocky Hill High School football coach David Coyne expects the Terriers to have a promising 2012 season. We hope to be over .500 this year, Coyne said. We came off a big win [against Rockville High School] last week. Rocky Hill beat Rockville 57-12 Friday, Sept. 14, boosting the teams confidence in preparation for Fridays game against the Terriers main rival, Berlin High School. Coyne said a win against Berlin would be a big step for the team. If we beat Berlin then were definitely a force to reckon with, because theyre a very good football team, he said. The Berlin Redcoats ended up beating Rocky Hill 25-14 on their home turf, but, according to Coyne, the Terriers have other reasons to be confident in a successful season. We run. Were a running team, Coyne said of the teams strength. The Terriers also have three big linemen on offense, though most of the offense is new. Thats where we need to have those kids step up, Coyne said. Our defensive backs and our offensive backs, theyre all back. Coyne said the team lost big linemen Paul Spada and Sal Calafiore, who both graduated in May. Key returning players are running backs junior Chris Young and senior Alex Denardo, senior quarter- Alex DeNardo comes out of the backfield behind the block of Jameson OConnell (75). back Troy Syme and junior Andrew Jenkelunas. he and the team would like to win the division title and back again this year, he said. Coyne said senior Najee Moon is also one of the qualify for states. Rocky Hill will play an away game against East Cathteams best defensive players. Jameson OConnell had a number of key blocks to give the Terriers running game over 200 yards against the Berlin Redcoats. Chris Young fueled the Rocky Hill offense with 212 yards on a dozen carries, including a 54-yard scoring run.
