Profile of the Agency


Introduction
Bal Sahyog is a childrens world. It is an expanse of love, care and compassion. An organization dedicated to the protection of dignity of a child. It is committed to provide overall development opportunities and participation of children in their care, welfare and protection. Bal Sahyog is a non-partisan a social welfare organization registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860. The Department of Social Welfare, Government of NCT of Delhi has recognized Bal Sahyog as a Children Home for children in need of care and protection under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.

Objective
Opportunities to neglected children to evolve into respectable and responsible citizens. To actively support national laws and international conventions that upholds the dignity and rights of the children

Mission
To provide opportunities that help economically and socially marginalized children to develop their full potential in and atmosphere of love, understanding and joyful learning.

Geographical Location
BAL SAHYOG is situated in Connaught Place, opposite L Block Market New Delhi.

Activities & Services


1. Residential Facilities:Bal Sahyog is situated in a 1.67 Acre Land at Connaught Place in the heart of Delhi city since 1954 it has been providing shelter to 120 children annually through its 5 dormitories at the Connaught Place children home. It has a well-equipped modern kitchen to fulfill nutritional needs of the children. Food is healthy and wholesome. There is an 8-Bed Dispensary and First-Aid Center within the Bal Sahyog campus. 2. Bal Sahyog Middle School:Since 1987 Bal Sahyog is providing education to children coming from economically down socially disadvantaged background. Bal Sahyog has a middle school at the Connaught Place Campus the Directorate of Education has recognized the school and provides financial assistance. At present the school has three classes from 6th to 8th standard. 3. Community based Outreach Programs:Bal Sahyog has Ongoing Community based Outreach Programs with 8 center at Inderpuri, Kotla, Naharpur, Nangloi, Rithala, Wazirpur and 2 centers at Paharganj for both girls and boys. These centers provide- remedial and non-formal education, libaray facility and vocational training, awareness and intervention on health, hygiene and social awareness and intervention on health and social issues, recreational facilities and supplementary nutrition.

4. Street Children Programs:Since 1993 Bal Sahyog is also working with street children. The project aims at providing integrated community based non-institutional basic services to the under privileged children. The program caters to protect the rights of children involved in rag picking, begging shoe shinning balloon selling and other petty works. The project is running at six contact points in Delhi viz; Nangloi, Inderpuri, Wazirpur, Kotla, Paharganj and Rithala. The program has been funded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, New Delhi. 5. Boat Club, India Gate:Boating facilities are provided to enthusiast visitors. Income generated through boating is utilized to partially support the running program of Bal Sahyog. 6. Vocational Training:One of the main means of mainstreaming children of Bal Sahyog. Since its inception the task of training inmates of Bal Sahyog has been provided by the Ministry of Micro, small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India. Children who are above the age of 14 years have the facility to avail the following trades like Carpentry, Electronics, cutting and Tailoring, Book Binding and Computers. 7. Accredited Vocational Institute of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) :Bal Sahyog runs vocational course like Beauty culture and Cutting and Tailoring, Library Attendant etc. accredited by NIOS at Bal Sahyog campus as well as in some of the Community Program Centers.

1) Worker tried to understand the working, services, and plans of the agency. 2) Studied the case files. 3) Interacted with children living at BAL Sahyog and newly enrolled children. 4) Participated in the activities of agency like:1) Independence Day celebration. 2) Birthday celebration of children. 5) Prepare case profiles of new children 6) Understood the process of admission to home and restoration from the home. 7) Interacted with open shelter children about the work they do at night. 8) Trainee conducted ice breaking session.

By trainee Ashini (2nd year)


1) Worker understood the agency structure, services, and delivery system. 2) Participated in eye check up and health camp. 3) Studied case files. 4) Read principles of juvenile justice and protection of children act. 5) Took a session with children discussed them about the harmful affect of smoking and chewing of tobacco. 6) Went along with the staff member to the police station for FIR of missing child. 7) Participated in Independence day celebration and Birthday celebration of children at Bal Sahyog

By trainee Shekher (1st year)


1) Understood the agency setting and working of agency. 2) The worker came to know about the background of children coming to the shelter home. 3) Understood the process of admission to home and restoration from the home. 4) Participated in the NFE activities. 5) Interacted with children at home and children coming to open shelter.

Point of discussion:How the trainees can intervene to address the problem of substance abuse (Smoking and chewing tobacco) among children.
