1. Introducing Points & Rewards


The Points & Rewards extension offers reward system implemented as well as the referral program. Points can be awarded automatically (and manually by the merchant) for making purchases, reviewing products, inviting friends or carrying out any other admin-specified action. Later these points can be redeemed for discounts. Apart from the above advantages, Points & Rewards Magento extension offers a set of additional powerful features: various reward options; rule creation abilities; referral system; advanced notifications; balance & transactions control; ability to change points balance from the backend.

2. Points & Rewards Configuration


The Points & Rewards extension can be easily configured in the way you need at the System Configuration aheadWorks Extensions Points & Rewards General backend page.

Note: To give the customer an ability to earn and spend money while buying orders, configure earn and spend rates at Promotion Rewards Points Rates (see page 9).

General Tab 1. Select Yes, in the Enable field. 2. Specify the point unit name, which will be displayed on the Customer Account page as well as in the shopping cart. 3. Set up the reward points expiration day in the corresponding field, or leave it blank to disable the option. 4. The enabled rewards history allows customers to track the earned points on their Account page. 5. Specify the minimum reward points balance available to redeem, or leave this field blank to avoid limitation. 6. Specify the maximum available points balance, or leave this field blank to avoid limitation. 7. If any reference page is selected in the Info Page field, customers will see the Learn more link in their account. Thus you can create a special page with additional information about points, some help or FAQ.

Earning Points Tab In the Earning points tab, you can set up the amount of points earned by customer for different actions. 1. In the Registration field, enter the number of points given for user registration. 2. In the Newsletter signup field, specify the number of points given for signing up for a newsletter. 3. In the Reviewing product field, specify the number of points given for posting a review. 4. Define the maximum amount of points earned per day for reviewing products, or leave this field blank to avoid limitation. 5. Select Yes, if you want to reward only those customers who made the purchase. 6. In the Tagging product field, enter the number of points given for tagging a product. 7. Specify the maximum amount of points earned per day for tagging a product, or leave this field blank to avoid limitation. 8. In the Participating in poll field, define the number of points given for taking part in polls. 9. Enter the maximum amount of points earned per day for participating in a poll, or leave this field blank to avoid limitation.

Referral System Tab The Points & Rewards extension offers the built-in referral system with flexible settings, so that you can reward your customers for inviting their friends as well as for their referral purchases. 1. Select Yes, in the Enable referral system field. 2. Specify the amount of points given for inviting a friend in the corresponding field. 3. In the corresponding field, limit the number of days, within which the customer can gain points for inviting a friend. You can leave this field blank to avoid limitation. 4. Select whether the customer gets points for each referrals order or for the first order only. 5. Specify the fixed amount of points given to customers for their referrals purchases in the corresponding field. 6. Specify the percentage from the purchase sum given to customers for their referrals orders in the corresponding field.

Notifications Tab The Points & Rewards extension allows customers to receive email notifications about balance update, points expiration, and invitation. 1. Select Yes in the Enable notifications field. 2. In the Sender field, specify the name shown in the "From" field in the email sent to customers. 3. Select Yes if you want an email to be automatically sent to the customer whose points expire in several days. 4. Specify the number of days for a notification to be sent before points expire.

5. Click the Save Config button.

Note: The Balance update, Points expire, and Invitation email templates are selected by default.

Advanced Tab If you want to set up all customers' points balance to 0, click the Reset all transactions button.

Note: This action is unrecoverable. All extension data will be lost!

3. Points Rates
To give the customer an ability to earn and spend money while buying orders, you should configure earn and spend rates at Promotion Rewards Points Rates.

Earning Points
If earning rates are set up, customers can gain points for their purchases according to admin-specified rates. After an order has been completed, a certain amount of points is added to the customer's points balance. 1. To create a new rate, go to Promotion Rewards Points Rates Earn Rate and click the Add New button. 2. On the Add Rate page, select websites and customer groups the rate will be applied to. 3. Set up the exchange rate. Note: You can use decimal numerals (99.99) while setting up the exchange rate. Reward points, however, should be whole numbers only.

Spending Points
Customers can spend their reward points while paying for their orders. 1. To create a new rate, go to Promotion Rewards Points Rates Spend Rate and click the Add New button. 2. On the Add Rate page, select websites and customer groups the rate will be applied to. 3. Set up the exchange rate. Note: Use only whole numbers in the Reward points field.

4. Points & Rewards Rules


You can set up Points & Rewards rules to award reward points to customers for purchasing a certain product or product quantity. The customer will gain points after the order has been completed. Go to Promotions Rewards Reward Rules to create a new rule and see the list of all Points & Rewards rules.

Note: Points & Rewards rules are not set up by default.

Creating a New Rule


Flexible Points & Rewards rules allow your customers to earn different number of points while buying products from various categories, with certain SKU, price, or any other item attribute. 1. Go to the Promotions Rewards Reward Rules page at the backend. 2. Click the Add New button to create a new rule. 3. Enter the Rule Title (required) and its Description (optional). 4. In the Websites field, select the websites where the rule will be applied. 5. In the Customer Groups field, define the customer group(s) this rule will be applied to. 6. Set up the time period when the rule is active. If you leave the date range empty, the rule will be enabled as soon as it is saved with the Active status. 7. In the Status field, select Active. 8. If you have several rules, you are able to stop further rules processing. 9. If you have multiple rules, set up the rule priority.

Rule Conditions Tab The rule will be applied only if your conditions are met. You can create as many conditions as you like. In this guide, we create one condition as an example: Items quantity equals or greater than 10.

Action Tab Define the number of points the customer earns when the rule is met.

Related Blocks Tab You can define the static block(s) displayed on the Cart page when the rule is met.

If all the conditions are met, your customers will see the CMS block youve specified. For example:

5. Reward Points Redeem


Registered users can see the reward points balance information as well as the transactions history from their Account Dashboard where additional Reward Points tab appears.

If the customer has points and their amount is more than minimum reward points balance available to redeem (System Configuration Points & Rewards Minimum reward points balance to be available to redeem), an additional Use my Reward point(s) checkbox and input for points appears. The customer can spend the whole amount of points available or part of them at the Checkout page in the Payment Information section.

Note: Customers can use points to pay only for subtotal without discount. Shipping and taxes are not included!

6. Adding/Reducing Points by Administrator


The Magento Points & Rewards module allows the administrator to manage the points balance of every customer from the backend.

Massive Points Update


The administrator can select/unselect customers massively in the Transaction grid. 1. Go to Promotions Rewards Transaction. Here you can see the list of transactions for the whole store.

2. Click the Add New button, to add a transaction to change customers balance. 3. Select a customer(s). Note: You can change the points balance massively having filtered all your current customers by group, country, or website.

4. Insert the comment and specify the amount of points you want to add or subtract. Type in positive (10) or negative number (-10) in the Points Balance Change field to enlarge or reduce customers points balance. 5. Save the transaction.

Individual Points Upgrade


The Points & Rewards Magento module adds its own tab on the Customer Information page in the backend. Thus you can either enlarge or reduce the points balance of every customer on individual basis. 1. Go to Customers Manage Customers to see the whole list of customers. 2. Find the customer you want to add/subtract points and go to the Reward points tab on the Customer Information page. 3. The first section shows customers current balance. 4. The Reward Points history tab displays when, what for and how much points the customer gained. 5. To update the customers points balance, enter positive or negative number in the Update Points field. 6. You can leave a comment for the customer. 7. You can manage the customers subscriptions for balance update emails and expiration notifications in the Reward Points Notification section.
