FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 20, 2012

ABFM Annual Conference brings the best in Public Finance Research to New York City, October 11th-13th, at the Marriott East Side Hotel New York, N.Y. - In the midst of challenging economic and political environments on a local, national and global scale, public sector finance researchers, professors and practitioners will join together for the 2012 Annual Conference of the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management (ABFM) in New York City, October 11, 2012, to October 13, 2012, at the Marriott East Side Hotel, 525 Lexington Avenue at 49th Street. Our conference brings together the nations best public finance scholars and practitioners to explore how governments are coping with fiscal stress, said James Savage, Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia and Chair of ABFM. If you want to know how our states and cities are managing their budgets, then attend our conference. More than 30 sessions will be held during the three-day conference, featuring more than 100 presentations of research and analysis on a wide range of topics involving the planning, management and conditions of finances for nonprofits, international agencies, and all levels of government across the country and around the world. Many topics covered will include critical municipal finance and bond issues receiving so much press coverage lately, said Scott Pattison, Executive Director of the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) and Co-Chair of the 2012 ABFM Annual Conference. This is an opportunity to hear first hand from those studying these issues, the people who influence public policy through their research and writings. Conference events also include two plenary sessions focusing on fiscal issues of critical interest. The plenary session on State and Local Debt Challenges will be held Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 3:15 p.m., and the plenary session on Health Care Challenges and Opportunities will be held Friday, October 12, 2012, at 10:15 a.m.

ABFM will also hold a luncheon on Friday, October 12, 2012, starting 12 Noon, where it will recognize winners of its annual awards for 2012. We are looking forward to hosting the nations top scholars of public budgeting and financial management, said Daniel Smith, Assistant Professor at New York Universitys Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and Co-Chair of the 2012 ABFM Annual Conference. The attendees, agenda, facilities, and events will make the conference not only substantive and informative, but also lively and energetic.
