13th September, 2012

On Monday 3rd of September a team of 38 Year 8 MIS students travelled to Totara Springs in Matamata to compete in the annual Coast to Coast Sports Camp. In the opening ceremony everyone was hyped and ready to go. First off was the Cross Country which was harder than expected, but our team did very well against some hard competition. This was followed by archery, shooting and golf, and to finish the day was swimming. Swimming was a very tight match, with 1 point between 1st and 2nd; unfortunately, we came runners-up but we were still very pleased with the result. After a restless sleep for some everyone was ready to start a full-on two days of sport. Teams competed in various sports throughout both days with some great results. During the evenings the sports continued until 9pm and we played Indoor Hockey, Chess, Draughts, Boys and Girls Table-Tennis, Bowls, and Indoor Soccer. We did very well in all of them and had some close matches and we made it into the final for Indoor Soccer. This was an extremely close game which ended with sudden death drop out which unfortunately, we lost 1-nil. Everyone was exhausted but after a few packets of lollies we were ready to play our hardest.

Our first final was boys hockey which we won 3-nil. In our netball final we had an outstanding win over Rosehill. This was followed by the Girls Basketball final which was a close game but we lost in the second half to Rosehill. On Friday morning bright and early there was Athletics. We tried our hardest and came runners-up behind Hillary. The week finished off with a prizegiving and we were awarded with six trophies and five runner-up placings which was a great effort against some tough competition. It was a fun week of playing sport and making heaps of new friends. Overall, we had a great experience and our school finished 4th overall!! We would like to give a huge thanks to Miss Milliken and Mrs Taylor; we couldnt have done it without you. Also big thanks to Keith Holmes, Darryl Parker and Lynda Lovelock for being our parent helpers for the week!

MIS Overall Winners in: Netball, Boys Hockey, Golf, Girls Table Tennis, Caged Soccer and Tennis. MIS Runners-up in: Athletics, Boys Indoor Soccer, Girls Basketball, Petanque and Swimming.

Well done to all students who have completed a Science or Technology Fair Project. Student interest in the Police Force

Last Tuesday we were lucky enough to be invited to the Morrinsville Police Station because we have been looking at the police force as a future career idea. It was bigger than we thought and we got to look at the cells and breath-testing room. We got to meet some of the Police and see where they all get to work. We got to see the security cameras pointing onto the main street and also saw where they do the finger printing. Sergeant Sneddon let us try on his police vest, it was really heavy and weighs 12kg. It was fun and really interesting to see behind the scenes. Report by Dylan Meale, Kodee Rowling
