Business Objective Identify incremental revenue stream through Bus Shelter advertising in the cities DART serves Project Objective Test Bus Shelter advertising in Irving to identify the benefits and viability If proven, leverage the benefits to roll out through Irving and then to other cities

Situation
The Bus Shelter topic has been in the queue for some time Across the DART service area, the landscape has been uneven in our ability to leverage Bus Shelters There are 865 Bus Shelters in the DART service Areas
Current service for Bus Shelters averages about $700 annually ($605,500)

DART advertising assets at the street level currently consist of;

Situation - City of Irving


The City of Irving currently has 36 bus shelters
Some areas may be more sensitive to certain types of advertising; Residential, Historic, Las Colinas/Commercial There are some hurdles to consider;
Locations that are on a State Highway may involve TxDOT who may expect shared revenue
Failure to notify TxDOT could negatively affect our future ability to locate shelters on TxDOT right-of-way

We need to be mindful of Irving Code or ordinances


We need assistance from Irving staff person to navigate through these provisions

Understanding how to scale up should we deem this proposition viable


How to engage with Irving on where advertising shelters are/are not appropriate

Recommendation
Four execution options

1.

Take an Adopt a Highway approach


Leverage as a partnership/donation vs. paid advertisement Provides resources to keep the shelter and area maintained

Focus on services and hospitality vs. CPG/Retail Focus on two commercially viable locations Traditional advertising opportunities Approach the businesses in the local areas Test viability and revenue stream
