COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Written Proposal (15%): Complete write up of the first three (3) chapters of the thesis. 2. Proposal Defense (35%): The average grade of at least four (4) members of the panel EXCLUDING the adviser. 3. Advisers Grade (50%) : Based on advisers assessment of advisees performance

Written Proposal
This must contain the first three (3) chapters of the thesis including the following:

Introduction(contd)

1.Introduction
Includes a short introduction/background and a discussion of the significance / importance of the study. The general and specific objectives

Hypothesis Must be in the form of null hypothesis Scope and limitation Sets the limitation and establishes the boundaries of the study Defines what will be done and what will not be done

2. Review of Related Literature


A critical analysis of scientific works by other researchers that you will use to support your investigation. Must include mostly research literature Requirement: At least twenty (20) research literature in at least four (4) different journals
Must be supported by actual copies of journal articles (saved in a diskette)

Steps in Writing Introduction to RRL 1. Identify the general topic of the sources under discussion.
- This will provide the context of your RRL

2. Discuss what has been studied about the topic of your paper - conflicts in a theory, conclusions, gaps in research and scholarship, etc. 3. Mention why the literature used is worth reviewing.

To write the body of the RRL: Group the sources according to their common dominators (approaches, objectives or any specific chronologies); Give the examples of how to sort out these groups. Use quotations, evidences, data, etc. They will make your review of related literature more valid.

To make the Conclusion of the RRL: Summarize the contributions of the literature sources made to the area of study you investigate. Maintain the central focus in the Introduction part ; Give a kind of insight into the relationship between the topic of your review and a larger study area (e.g. a discipline, a scientific endeavor, etc.)

Components of Written Proposal Required for Approval of Oral Defense


1. Introduction : same as that required in

written report 2. Review of Related Literature: substantial number of citations to support the significance of the study 3. Materials and Methods: complete description of the methodology

4. Gantt chart: time line of experimentation that extends over a maximum of seven (7) months (Aug 2012 to Feb 2013) 5. Budget 6. Waste disposal 7. Bioethics Clearance : If the study involves the use of animals and samples from humans (eg. Serum, urine, etc.)

1. Introduction

SCHEDULE OF REQUIREMENTS
Submission of Capsule Proposal: 22 June Defense: 27 June26 July 2012 Students who cannot defend the proposal until 31 July 2012 will be given a maximum grade equivalent to ONLY 40 % of the panel grade (equivalent to 14 pts for a perfect evaluation)
