Dallas Independent School District Procedures on Restroom Cleanliness and Repair Clean Restroom Initiative The Clean Restroom

Initiative was developed to ensure students have access to sanitary and functional restrooms. Our success requires the cooperation of all concerned parties (students, parents, teachers, administrators, maintenance staff, and custodial staff) to maintain the restroom guidelines and standards outlined in this bulletin. I. MONITORING AND CLEANING OF RESTROOMS A. The Custodial Services Department and campus administrators are responsible for ensuring all restrooms (including portable restrooms) are clean, in good repair, and open throughout the school day. B. The Custodial Services Department and campus administrators will ensure the custodial staff is fully dedicated to the cleaning, stocking, and/or monitoring of restrooms, as appropriate, throughout the school day. C. The following standards shall be met in the cleaning of restrooms: All surfaces and fixtures shall be disinfected and free of all soil and litter Smudges, fingerprints, and graffiti shall be removed from dispensers. All paper and soap dispensers will be stocked throughout the school day. Mirrors will be cleaned and graffiti removed. All trash receptacles will be emptied, relined, and disinfected. Floors will be swept and mopped. Walls, partitions, doors, and door handles will be cleaned, disinfected and graffiti removed. All chrome and metal work will be cleaned, disinfected, and dried. Vents, light fixtures and tops of partitions and doors shall be dusted. Unpleasant odors must be eliminated. All other graffiti shall be removed. If graffiti is etched into dispensers, partitions, mirrors, etc., or if the volume of graffiti is extensive, the Custodial Night Lead will place a work order or call for assistance from the Maintenance Department. All repair needs shall be reported to the office staff or Custodial Night Lead to place appropriate work orders.

The above standards shall be maintained per the following schedules at all schools: A minimum of four times during the school day in every student restroom spot-cleaning will be done to maintain the above standards. The disposal of trash and restocking of soap and paper supplies will be done as needed by the custodial staff. Full cleaning and disinfecting of each restroom and the restocking of dispensers will be done, each evening, by the custodial staff.

D. Custodial staff, campus aides, and site administrators shall randomly monitor restrooms daily. E. The Custodial Area Manager and Supervisors shall perform daily random spot restroom inspections. The Custodial Supervisor will inspect all restrooms from a scheduled work order which will be generated through the work order system for monthly restroom inspections throughout the school year. Observations of inspections will be documented in the work order systems and any and all actions taken to meet expected restroom conditions. All portable restrooms will be included in the monthly inspection. F. All District employees are encouraged to randomly inspect restrooms when visiting a school.

G. Anyone inspecting a restroom should report any cleanliness issues and/or repair needs to the Custodian on duty, Site Administrator, Night Lead Custodian, or the Area Custodial Manager/Supervisor.

H. The Custodian on duty shall immediately resolve cleanliness and/or sanitary issues and place work order calls, as needed on daily basis, to (972) 925-2140 or enter a work order into the work order system for all repair needs. I. The community will have the ability to report unsanitary bathroom conditions through a dedicated reporting number 972-925-4500. Reported issues will be automated into the work order system.

II. REPAIRS Restroom work order response standards by the responsible Maintenance Department Area shall be as follows: Priority 1- All emergency (immediate danger to the health and/or safety of students, staff, or property) service calls: Within 1 hour Examples: - Broken water line causing flooding - Major sewer line stoppage - Exterior restroom doors will not lock Priority 2- All urgent (less immediate danger to the health and/or safety of the students, staff or property but would preclude students from continuing use of one or more restroom fixtures) service calls: Within 24 hours. Examples: - Minor plumbing stoppages, other site facilities area available - Obscene or gang-related graffiti - Broken restroom stall door - Broken hand dryer Priority 3- All routine (no immediate danger to the health and/or safety of the students, staff, or property and does not preclude students from continuing use of any of the restroom fixtures) service calls: Within 30 days Examples: - Replace ceiling tile - Replace light cover - Sink faucet running slowly
