COSTUME Basic, Technical & Exhibition Drill

GENERALITIES:
It is a requisite of the DrillDance Australia that the costumes of its affiliated teams enhance the pageantry, spectacle and dignity of the Sport whilst at the same time presenting an image that is representative of the range of routines within our sport.

BASIC DRILL, TECHNICAL DRILL & EXHIBITION DRILL ROUTINES:

Costumes can be of various styles, traditional or non-traditional, but basically must consist of combinations of the following: * Jacket, Bodice, Tunic or Coat * Skirt, Kilt, (or Shorts / tailored Trousers for males if appropriate) * Leotard with Skirt (no frills) * Underwear * Footwear Junior Teams who elect to perform in both Basic Drill and Technical Drill will wear the same uniform. Intermediate and Senior Teams who elect to perform in both Technical and Exhibition Drill Routines will wear the same uniform.

HEADWEAR:
Headwear if worn, should be in character with the costume.

JACKETS / LEOTARDS:
The design of these garments will be such as to enable the arms to swing freely. If the hands are obscured by the sleeves, Judges will assess the costume as unsuitable in the Technical Drill Routine and the Exhibition Drill Routine.

GLOVES:
Gloves may be worn and if worn will be a contrasting colour to the cuff or end of the sleeve. If hands are obscured by virtue of the colour of the gloves and the cuff of the sleeve, Judges will assess the costume as unsuitable in the Technical Drill Routine and the Exhibition Drill Routine.

SKIRTS/SHORTS/KILT/TAILORED TROUSERS:
1. 2. 3. The design of the leotard, skirt, kilt, shorts or tailored trousers will be such as to enable free movement of legs and arms by team members when marching. The fit of the leotard, skirt, kilt or shorts will be such as to avoid the garment riding up. When a skirt is pleated the number of pleats on each member may vary to suit the waistline of the wearer, however for the sake of presentation the width of the pleats will appear to be uniform within the Team. Sports briefs will be worn, in a colour uniform throughout the team. Common sense will prevail in the cut of the briefs in order to maintain the dignity of the Sport. This addition, if part of the costume, may be worn but must not hamper the act of marching. If the hands are obscured by Capes, Plaids etc. during the Technical Drill Routine and/or Exhibition Drill Routine, the Judges will assess the costume as unsuitable.

2. 3. The size and length is not required to be uniform throughout the team as these will vary with the physical proportions of the wearer. The bottom portion of the garment should reach to about the same position on each girl and the overall appearance should be one of uniformity. Will be recognised, unadorned, white marching boots, sand shoes or gym boots. The edges of the sole and heel platforms may be any uniform colour. The style of the footwear within a team is not required to be identical. It is not a requirement that all members within a team have a uniform hairstyle, however it will be styled in a manner to ensure the hair does not obstruct the vision and is neat and tidy. When Team members elect to wear hair bands, they can be of any colour, uniform throughout the team. The collar/neck opening should also receive careful consideration for freedom of action. The design and wearing of and/or the position of wearing the following, must be such to appear to be uniform throughout the Team. Colour combinations, style, pattern, headwear if worn, all trimmings, width of pleats (not in number), any leotards/skirts/kilts/shorts/trouser fastenings, any ornamentation, motifs, belts, cross straps, pockets, collars, necklines, epaulettes, buttons or any whatever of a similar nature. It is not a requirement that every button on a costume be identical only that each button position, size and appearance be similar on all uniforms within a team. The number of buttons on each costume must (when it is meant for buttons to show) be the same. However the spacing will depend on the physical proportion of the wearer as will the length of zips or other types of fasteners. The following may be worn without affecting uniformity. (a) Medication Carrier or Medical Identification bracelet.

JEWELLERY:
Rings and unobtrusive sleepers or studs worn through piercings are permitted. Other forms of jewellery, if visible, may only be worn uniformly throughout the team. Common sense will prevail in the case of extra piercings provided that some discretion is shown.

MAKE-UP:
When cosmetics are used to heighten the face colour to add the effect of pageantry it will be uniform throughout the team, however, when make-up is intended to be quietly unobtrusive it may be applied to tone in with the individual members skin and hair colouring.

FIT:
In many cases costumes are passed on from one member to another over a period of time and therefore the fit may not be perfect. It is more important for the costume to be neat, clean and presentable.
