WH Press Corps Goes Seven Weeks Without a Question

I am veteran White House reporter Keith Koffler. White House Dossier is dedicated to preserving freedom by holding the White House to account.

President Obama has not taken a serious question from the White House press corps in nearly seven weeks, a remarkable string that points to a campaign-style White House operation that is seeking to insulate the candidate from tough cross examination. The last substantive question Obama took from a White House reporter was during a June 20 press conference following the G20 Summit in Los Cabos, Mexico. Obama allowed only six questions during the event, which was nearly guaranteed to keep him out of political hot water as the focus was on foreign policy. Since then, Obama has held no press conferences, given no interviews to White House reporters, and taken no questions at the White House events he has held where reporters have been present. After a July 26 Cabinet meeting, Obama actually laughed off the prospect of taking a serious question about gun laws. From the White House transcript:

During his recent trip to Europe and Israel, Mitt Romneys failure to take many questions from the frustrated reporters traveling with him sparked an uproar in Washington, even though Romney did in fact hold a press availability during the trip. Obamas silencing of the White House press corps has drawn no similar protest. To the contrary, Daily Caller White House reporter Neil Munro was derided by his colleagues when he interrupted Obamas remarks in the Rose Garden June 15 to try to ask about immigration. Munro said he thought Obama had finished. It turns out that was one of the last questions any White House reporter has asked the president. Obama has done some interviews with local TV reporters during the interim. But, though they occasionally yield some news, these sessions tend to be easy home runs for the president. Obama is facing reporters less versed in national issues and politics than the White House press corps. And they are more likely to be intimidated by the trappings of the White House, where they suddenly find themselves sitting down with the president of the United States. Obama and Michelle also swatted away mainly softballs during a July 12 interview with CBS The Morninganchor Charlie Rose. Obama did get one feeble question from what appeared to be a White House reporter during his June 29 tour of the fire damage in Colorado Springs. Obama was quizzed, What do you think when you see just this stuff right here?

My guess is that his handlers are too afraid of what he might say if asked some real tough questions. the private sector is doing just fine; if you have a business, you didnt build that! No surprise herethe press corp already knows all they think they need to know about Obamathey feel that Romney is the new enemy and they need to excoriate him at every possible opportunity. Lets keep in mind that the media took no time to vet the current POTUS and look what happened. The country has not recovered because of hope and the change we made was for the worse. With the right choices Romney can steer us out of the hole that Obama expanded listenits not all Obamas fault but he did very little to right the ship and many of his policies pushed us farther into the hole. A new direction that lessens the force of government on us at every turn will help this economy change directions.

And this is exactly why the media continues to lose credibility, viewers and why Americans more and more are turning to other sources. barry, the media and dems will say its because evil conservatives just want their ideology reinforced but the reality is Is and Ds are turning away from the media more and more. If you engage in a debate with friends or colleagues and youve been getting your newsfrom abc/cbs/cnn/nyt et al YOU HAVE LOST, not only that you hurt your own credibility and integrity. Its only a matter of time before the American people start to hold the media accountable for their treasonous behavior. The utter lack of integrity, the lack of professionalism, the blind adorationpretending as if you have ethicsthat are somehow hiding your obvious bias is only fooling YOU and the relatively few Americans who are liberal and choose to be ignorant and slaves to their ideology. What I dont get is the giddy willingness of so called journalistswho seem absolutely oblivious to their waning credibility. You have to look yourself in the mirror are you honestly able to look right past the fact that you have LIED, DECEIVED and MISINFORMED the American people to our detriment for the sake of a politician and party?
