News from the blogosphere
"EPUB export in Calligra Words"
"I have long wanted to push Calligra Words as a tool for writing ebooks. It has a simple and intuitive UI that should lend it well to an author's needs. In fact it can remove all the UI elements and just leave the contents on the screen by pressing just two keys: ctrl-h. Here is a picture of Words in 'author mode' (it's not really called that, but it kind of is anyway):

However there are several other things that we need to implement before we can credibly say that it's good for ebooks. One of them is that there is no way to save to the standard ebook formats. But today there was a breakthrough in that area! Mojtaba Shahi Senobari (moji) and I have worked on an odt-to-epub ilter and today we got the output through the epub validator at http://validator.idpf.org/ for the irst time. Here is a screenshot to prove it:

Granted, it doesn't support much formatting, it doesn't support pictures yet and it doesn't split up the contents into chapters. But we have the very basics working and after some cleanup we will push it into the master branch so that others can help out. If you want to check it out, the branch name is export-epub-moji." Richard Stallman on Steam for Linux

Richard Stallman has mixed feelings with Valve's desire to port Steam to Linux. He thinks that this could bring more users to Linux which is always good. But he also thinks that some freedom will be lost with this non-free software. Overall he thinks that there are more good than bad things. Quellen: heise open ,
