COACHES AND STAFF


Arthur Albiero, the University of Louisvilles head swimming coach for the past nine seasons, will be part of Portugals coaching staff and will help coach U of L swimmers Carlos Almeida and Pedro Oliveira. Albiero, a native of Brazil, was an assistant coach for Romania at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Dennis Pursley, a Louisville native, is Great Britains head swimming coach. Grew up in Louisville and starred at Alabama before returning to coach Lakeside in 1970s. Hes coached numerous Olympic medalists from United States and Australia, including Mary T. Meagher early in her career. Will become Alabamas head coach after Olympics.

Amgad Khazbak, the maestro at the Bluegrass Fencers Club in Lexington, is head coach of the U.S. womens foil team. Hes been at Bluegrass since 2004 and also is the fencing coach at Eastern Kentucky University. He is Lee Kiefers coach and also coached her older sister, Alexandra, who won the 2011 NCAA title as a freshman at Harvard. He was national foil coach for the Egyptian Fencing Federation from 1990-2003.

Others
Stephanie Hightower (Stuart High) is the president of USA Track & Field, the sports national governing organization. She was a world-class hurdler who made the 1980 U.S. Olympic team that boycotted the Games and narrowly missed the 1984 team. Tom Neb (Ballard High/U. of Kentucky) will be a mechanic for the USA mountain biking team. Hes the owner of San Juan Cycles, a bicycle shop in Durango, Colo.
