U.S. MARKETS FOR ADVANCED PROTECTIVE GEAR AND ARMOR TO BE WORTH ALMOST $5.3 BILLION IN 2015 Wellesley, Mass.

In a recent release, ADVANCED PROTECTIVE GEAR AND ARMOR (AVM021G) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the value of advanced protective gear and armor in the United States approached $4 billion in 2010. Over the next 5 years there is a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.1%, making the total U.S. market value for the sector nearly $5.3 billion by 2015. The largest segment of this market is ancillary components; basic protectives such as gloves, helmets, eye wear, and respirators. The segment currently constitutes about 59.8% of the total protective gear and armor market, and at a current value of $2.3 billion with a CAGR of 5.7%, the ancillary component segment should reach a total value of $3.1 billion by 2015. In 2010, the thermal protective segment accounted for $566 million and should reach $733 million by 2015 for a CAGR of 5.3%. The CBRN (Chemical/Biological/Radiological/Nuclear) segment totaled $500 million in 2010, and should reach $701 million by 2015 for a CAGR of 7.0%. The armor and bullet resistant segment in 2010 was worth $508 million and in 2015 should reach $740 million with a CAGR of 7.8%. This report focuses on the protective gear, armor, and clothing needed by law enforcement, military, fire service, industry, and first response personnel. Natural and manmade disasters will continue to occur, as will the production of dangerous chemicals. Hazardous occupations, terrorist acts, and federal safety regulations wont stop either. The need for safety gear has been around for hundreds of years, however this niche market is still continuing forward as opposed to maturing. The market is driven by product improvements such as material, design, comfort, weight, and overall safety. While economic factors may slow innovation and purchasing, the intrinsic value of protective gear helps overcome these issues. The safer a working environment is, the more economically viable it will be. This report would be most useful for companies involved in the personal protective clothing industry, or anyone considering entering the mix. This would include clothing producers and distributors, textile related manufacturers, material suppliers, and fabric mills. It would also include companies with personnel exposed to potentially high volumes of flame and heat, chemicals, or risks associated with bullets or other projectiles.
