July 19, 2011 Dear Charles Beck, I know the applicant Abhay Rana, for the last two

years of his Graduate course work in Mechanical Engineering. I taught him Advanced Engineering Mathematics A/B, Vibration Analysis, Design Of Machine Elements, Advanced Strength Of Materials & Finite Element Method, and guided him in Advanced Mechanical Drawings and CAD/CAM Laboratories. I have found him to be attentive and industrious. His remarkable grasp of fundamentals and his ability to analyze and solve problems are praiseworthy. He is good at Mechanical Engineering packages such as Solidworks, Pro-E, AutoCad and Catia and has enough Mathematical skills. In his final year of Graduate course work, he presented an Advanced Level Technical Project under my guidance in the fields of Robotics, CAD/CAM and Automation using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). The project consisted of a group of 4 students where Abhay was the project lead. Let me just inform you that I spend most of my nights in the laboratory doing research work and Abhay always had shown the same amount of devotion to his field of Engineering. By the time he was completed with the project he was surprisingly able to automate Esprit (CNC Machining) software from Solidworks creating a GUI (Graphical User Interface) and writing all the source code. He successfully completed all phases of the Engineering product lifecycle such as prototyping and testing. Abhay has regularly attended various seminars on Spreadsheet-Aided Engineering and Finite Element Analysis. This approach of participating in the technical events indirectly shows his interest towards research and development field. On the whole, I would like to rank him top 1% in my subjects and strongly recommend him for an Engineering position in your company to explore new frontiers. Sincerely, Manish Narayan Professor of Mechanical Engineering, California State University, Northridge Senior Software Engineer, CCS 818-849-0482
