1.Equipment:armchair,tapemeasure,tape,stopwatch. 2.Beginthetestwiththesubjectsittingcorrectlyinachairwitharms,thesubjects backshouldrestingonthebackofthechair.Thechairshouldbestableandpositioned suchthatitwillnotmovewhenthesubjectmovesfromsittingtostanding. 3.Placeapieceoftapeorothermarkeronthefloor3metersawayfromthechairso thatitiseasilyseenbythesubject. 4.Instructions:OnthewordGOyouwillstandup,walktothelineonthefloor,turn aroundandwalkbacktothechairandsitdown.Walkatyourregularpace. 5.StarttimingonthewordGOandstoptimingwhenthesubjectisseatedagain correctlyinthechairwiththeirbackrestingonthebackofthechair. 6.Thesubjectwearstheirregularfootwear,mayuseanygaitaidthattheynormally useduringambulation,butmaynotbeassistedbyanotherperson.Thereisnotime limit.Theymaystopandrest(butnotsitdown)iftheyneedto. 7.Normalhealthyelderlyusuallycompletethetaskintensecondsorless.Very frailorweakelderlywithpoormobilitymaytake2minutesormore. 8.Thesubjectshouldbegivenapracticetrialthatisnottimedbeforetesting. 9.Resultscorrelatewithgaitspeed,balance,functionallevel,theabilitytogoout,and canfollowchangeovertime. 10.Interpretation <10seconds=normal <20seconds=goodmobility,cangooutalone,mobilewithouta gaitaid. <30seconds=problems,cannotgooutsidealone,requiresagait aid. Ascoreofmorethanorequaltofourteensecondshasbeenshowntoindicatehighrisk offalls.
