Letting the employee feel needed and appreciated is a key factor to maintaining maximum employee morale and motivation. If your employees feel that they play

a key role in the company by the work they provide, then they are much more likely to say that they like their job and to strive to better themselves at that job. For many, feeling valued is just as important as high pay, and promotions. Motivational techniques adopted by Google: Google hires programmers straight out of college and tempts them with all the benefits of college life. Indeed, as the hiring brochures stress, the place was explicitly modelled upon college. Money is the prime motivator for every employee. Hence, we have mentioned techniques excluding money. Motivating organisational culture: It is, after all, defined as the general pattern of mind sets, beliefs and values that members of an organization share in common, and Google simply tries to match it with those with the employees. It helps to embed these cultures in the minds of the employees by creating a sense of acceptance. Informal work culture at Googleplex: The employees enjoy an informal work culture at Google. They have flexible time period in which they can start or end the work. This gives them freedom to think productively. Googlers are allowed to bring their pets with them in their workplace They are provided with free snacks, and lunch and dinner prepared by star chef like Charlie Ayers (former chef for the rock band the grateful dad) Recreational activities such as gym, assorted video games, pool table, ping pong and roller skater hockey Googlers are allowed to spend at least 20% of their time in their self directed projects Open communication across the organisation Lunch hour discussion Complete freedom regarding the projects Friday after brief meetings An on site massage therapist, hair stylist, maternity benefits, parental leave, adoption benefits, stock options, telecommuting, on site oil change and car repairs. The Company even conducts an annual happiness survey to find out how committed the employees are, and how.

Google encourages its employees to work hard and play hard.

Such motivational techniques may not always create a win win situation for the company, as there are high chances of grapevine activities, and risks involved.
