Professional Development Plan

Year One: 2012 Graduate from University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Master in Library and Information Studies degree Begin job search for full- or part-time position somewhere in a library in the area of Eastern North Carolina Continue employment on Phases II and III of the Cataloging Project at the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library in High Point, NC Seek new volunteer opportunities in public libraries around the area of Greensboro, NC in order to gain experience in multiple library backgrounds Keep in touch with contacts at Jackson Library, UNC-G, looking for possible job and/or volunteer opportunities Year Two: 2013 Join professional organizations/committees relevant to my position at the time o Map & Geospatial Roundtable of the American Library Association o Cataloging and Classification Committee of the ALA o Resources and Technical Services Section of the North Carolina Library Association o Government Resources Section of the NCLA Attend North Carolina Library Association Conference, 2013, in Winston-Salem, NC Attend training sessions provided to my library by OCLC or other service providers Continue subscription to Library Journal print edition Keep up with trends by maintaining active interest in list-servs, blogs, and other social media avenues Acquire further specialization in cataloging skills (training at my institution on cataloging specialized materials)

Year Three: 2014 Continue in career path, learning new cataloging skills and branching out to other areas of librarianship (i.e. Circulation Desk) Attend ALA annual conference Become active in UNCG Alumni Association and offer services in mentoring programs Continue learning further specialization skills in Cataloging Keep current on library trends through list-servs, blogs, and other online and traditional methods Create personal blog/website specializing in cataloging aspects Year Four: 2015 Continue expanding professional horizons and quest to learn all aspects of

librarianship Attend and present on cataloging project at NCLA Biannual Conference Participate in mentoring programs with UNCG LIS program and volunteer organizations within my institution Create a program at my library to instruct others in cataloging/bibliographic information importance Continue staying in touch with social media, including my own website

Year 5: 2016 Continue growing in my profession and current job Continue with membership and possible leadership in professional organizations such as ALA and NCLA Mentoring/training programs Become involved in/create volunteer coordination programs at my institution
