PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Discovery
The disease was described and documented in 1817 by the British physician James Parkinson. Is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder that leads eventually to a progressive disability, produced as a result of the destruction of pigmented neurons with a black substance.

Causes
Some scientists believe Parkinson's is caused by the oxidation of : MPTP = methyl phenyl tetra hydro pyridine
A recent theory involving genetic factors in the development of Parkinson's disease.

Features
Resting tremor. Muscle stiffness.

Bradykinesia ( slowness of voluntary movements ). Loss of postural reflexes.
