ISE II Trinity Written Exam

Here is some useful information about the Written Exam. Read carefully the instructions to get used to the type of exam:

The Controlled Written Exam represents 30% of the final mark and tests the candidates reading and writing skills taken under examinations conditions. It consists of two tasks that have equal weighting. Candidates must complete both tasks. There is NO choice given.

Task 1 Reading into Writing task (approximately 250 words): Candidates are required to evaluate information and arguments from an authentic text or texts and then systematically develop a written argument based on the information provided. This task requires candidates to produce a report or article. Task 2 Writing task (approximately 250 words): This task is similar to the portfolio tasks proposed at this level. At ISE II, candidates are required to show sensitivity to the needs of certain readers and choose an appropriate register. The task requires candidates to produce a letter, email, report, article, review or a piece of creative or descriptive writing.

The tasks are based on the subject areas listed for each level Candidates are expected to display their ability to use the functional, grammatical and lexical items specified for level ISE II and the preceding levels (see Language Requirements) The time allowed is 2 hours. The exam is carried out without the support of external resources (dictionaries, language aids, etc.) Candidates may not use correction fluid (Tippex) and must write only in blue or black pen.
