6 February 2011 Monday PLM- Catwalk

CMC on CLOUD 9! (Exhibit)

This day was the official start of the week-long celebration for the 9th foundation day of the College of Mass Communication. The celebration includes a thanks giving mass, an outreach program, the 3rd PLuMa Lecture and Recognition Program, the much awaited groovy night and an exhibit showing the works of the PR majors which include their own PR firm brochures; photos, games and a representation of the Milestones in the history of Public Relation. As I walked the on the PLM grounds early in the morning of February 6, I saw the students from batch Simulangan as they prepare for the exhibit later that morning. Some Mass Communication students (which belong from the lower years) also helped in preparing for the said activity. I think the exhibit was divided in four (4) parts/ categories. The first thing that I saw on the catwalk were different pictures showing different concepts and taken by students from Photography class. There were two photos which I liked most. The first peg was about a little boy, whose holding a phone. It captured my attention because he looked so cute and also, the picture has the black and white effect and made me feel like it was taken when the colored pictures was not yet introduced. The second photo was about a cellular phone and on the screen, it showed that somebody is calling the phone owner and the name of the caller was Mahal ko , it really made me smile because the phone itself showed how the owner was deeply in love with his partner. It also made me laugh because as I saw the peg, I remembered myself because once I also used the same term to named one of my contacts in my phone. The next part was a table wherein you can play games and the prize was the chocolate cloud9 since the theme of the exhibit was Cloud9. In the afternoon, we tried several games and we did not won, even once but atleast weve tried. The third part of the said exhibit showed the projects of Batch Simulangan. I think their task was about to make their own PR firm and a brochure which showed offers of

their companies to their clients. I found it hard to check each of the brochure but one thing is for sure, it made me realize how hard is it to be in PR industry. I also realized how hard it is to be a PR major. They undergo strict trainings and I cant imagine that I can make my own PR firm. On the exhibit, each student prepared their own brochure and it is like a contest because someone must win the votes of the faculty members. The last part of the exhibit was about the representation of the Milestones in the history of Public Relation. I still read the tarpaulin though I also had the copy of the Milestones, because our Professor gave us a copy as part of his lesson. The important events made me more understand and remembered the steps that the industry had taken to be successful. The work of Miss Princess Erline Maniquis caught my attention. I think the physical characteristics of her brochure were the reason why I chose to open and be able to browse her work. Her media-kit was entitled PRIME inc. Though I was able to see whats written, I wasnt able to jot down notes so I cant include it here. As a whole, the said exhibit made me realize how lucky I am to be part of the college of Mass Communication. It is as hard as the Engineering courses and whatever course that is considered hard, because you have to live up the expectations of your observers and clients especially in the industry. It also made me realize that being in PR profession takes a lot of courage. You must be serious and hard-working enough just to maintain the position or the status you have in the industry. You must be the best out of all your competitors just to prove that you really deserve the trust of your clients.
