Oz warns to check with your own doctor first if you are on medication before starting his two-day cleanse of nutrient-rich whole foods. His system nourishes your body's own built-in powerful detox mechanism to extract and expell damaging toxins that we absorb from the environment. While at the same time re-fortifying your bloodstream, guard cells, and powerhouse organs with natural whole foods that also rejuvenate you from the inside--out. He recommends repeating his two-day cleanse three or four times a year--or whenever you're feeling bloated or sluggish. Dr. Oz s Two-Day Cleanse Tips: 1) Drink plenty of water. 2) Don't eat after 7 P.M. 3) Get eight hours of sleep a night. 4) In the evening, take a warm bath with two cups of Epsom salt dissolved in the water. The salt's magnesium supports hundreds of enzymes in the body. 5) Before bed, sip a cup of dandelion tea to help flush away toxins in your urine before you sleep. Dr. Oz s Two-Day Cleanse recipes: Breakfast: Quinoa with Prunes Quinoa is a healthy whole grain, rich in fiber that also packs all nine essential amino acids to make-up a complete protein. I love Whole Foods 365 brand quinoa. It s reasonably priced and very easy to make.

Ingredients 1 cup water ½ cup quinoa 1 pinch nutmeg 1 tsp. grated ginger cup chopped prunes ¼ cup rice milk Directions: Bring the water, quinoa, nutmeg, and ginger to a boil in a small pot. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 10-minutes. Then stir in the prunes and rice milk. Cover the pot again and cook for another five minutes. Lunch: Revitalizing Fruit Smoothie Blueberries provide antioxidants to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals. The banana's vitamin B6 helps recharge detoxifying enzymes throughout the body, and ground flaxseed or chia seeds supply additional fiber and omega-3s. Ingredients ½ cup almond or hemp milk (plain or unsweetened) ¼ cup frozen blueberries ¼ banana 1 Tbsp. ground flaxseed or chia seeds ½ cup ice Snack: Pineapple-Kale Juice Dr. Oz recommends two glasses between meals but on his plan you can enjoy this as often as you wish. Pineapple contains digestive enzymes. Kale is rich in compounds that support enzymes in the liver. And artichoke can improve bile flow. Ingredients ½ cup pineapple 4 cups chopped kale leaves (no stems) 2 large cucumbers ½ lemon, squeezed ½ cup mint 2 artichoke hearts (from can or jar) Directions: If you don't have a juicer, use a blender on high; just add 1½ cups water and remove the pulp with a strainer.

Dinner: Vegetable Broth with a Side of Sauerkraut and Sliced Apples This soup is chock full of cleansing, re-fortifying ingredients: Fennel, parsley, garlic, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, and cayenne pepper. Finish your meal with fermented sauerkraut, which has probiotics that can help break down toxins in the gastrointestinal tract, and apple slices for added fiber. Ingredients 2 quarts water 2 red onions, coarsely chopped 2 stalks celery, coarsely chopped 1 fennel bulb (including fronds and stalks), coarsely chopped 4 large cloves garlic, chopped 1 cup sliced shiitake caps 1 cabbage, chopped 2 tsp. caraway seeds 2 Tbsp. fresh oregano, chopped 2 Tbsp. paprika 2 tsp. sea salt Freshly ground pepper Cayenne pepper to taste 2 whole parsley sprigs 8 sprigs parsley, chopped Directions Bring the ingredients to a boil; cover and simmer for an hour. Then remove the parsley sprigs and add the chopped parsley. Recipe makes enough for at least 2 meals. Enjoy! http://www.frenchheart.com
