Be proactive Begin with the end in mind Put first things first Think win-win Seek first to understand, then to be understood Synergize Sharpen the saw: physical, mental, emotional/social, spiritual

The first three habits

1. Be proactive 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. Put first things first

Those are Personal victories, interior things that you can do to achieve personal independence.

The next three habits are Interdependent habits:

4. Think win-win 5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood 6. Synergize

Synergy is when two or more people:

Produce more together

than the sum of what they could produce separately.

Use their differences to

produce something that neither one could have produced alone.

SYNERGY IS

SYNERGY ISNT

Celebrating differences Teamwork Open-mindedness Finding new and better ways

Tolerating differences Working independently Thinking you are always right Compromise

Synergy is everywhere Celebrate differences All a minority of one Roadblocks Stick up for diversity

Group projects Music bands

What are your unique gifts? What talents do you need from others? What qualities often seem like a disadvantage, but are necessary? How do you contact or talk with people, if you are shy?

Synergy doesnt just happen, its a process, celebrating differences is the foundation to getting there.

What do you think of when you hear the word DIVERSITY? There is more to it than racial and gender differences

It means understanding that everybody or each individual person is unique. You have to recognize everyones individual differences. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance. We have to start celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.

Physical features Dress Language Wealth Family Religious beliefs

Lifestyle Education Interests Skills Age Style

The list could go on and on and on and on

Level 1 Shun Diversity Level 2 Tolerate Diversity

Level 3 Celebrate Diversity

Shunners are afraid of differences Only their way is the best way Enjoy ridiculing those who are different They are very clique, they like to be surrounded by people who are just like them

Believe that everyone has a right to be different They do not shun diversity, but they do not embrace it either Mentality You dont bother me and I wont bother you They rarely ever get to synergy because they see differences as hurdles, not potential strengths to build upon

Value differences Use differences to their advantage They have learned that two people who think differently can achieve more than two people who think alike They do not necessarily agree with those differences, but they value them DIVERSITY = CREATIVE SPARKS = OPPORTUNITY

You are hanging out with your best friend and you have the what do you want to do/ I dont know, what do you want to do? conversation. BORING! What if you have a group project, and all of you are good at research, but no one knows Power Point that well or can speak in front of a group of people or can edit a paper, then what???

What if Bill Gates hired people who were just like him. Do you think that Microsoft would be as creative, or would it just be all business?

Just stay true to yourself. Think of people with different kinds of diversity like colors on a color wheel. To make a good match you have to have the color next to or across from you. Maybe you really want to be friends with this girl but she is a yellow looking for a violet and youre a green. Dont try to change yourself for her just stay true because one day you will find your red looking for a green.

Diversity isnt just external, its internal. We are as different from one another on the inside of our heads as we are on the outside of our heads Robert Fulghum

Linguistic: learn through reading, writing and telling stories Logical Mathematical: learn through logic, patterns, categories, relationships Bodily Kinesthetic: learn through bodily sensations and touching Spatial: learn through images and pictures Musical: learn through sound and rhythm. Interpersonal: learn through interaction and communication with others Intrapersonal: learn through their own feelings

Everyone sees the world differently and has a paradigm about themselves, others and the world. Once you catch on that everyone sees the world differently, and that everyone can be right, it will increase your understanding and respect for different viewpoints.

Ignorance Cliques Prejudice

This is when you have no clue about anything. What other people believe, what they are going through, and what they feel is all a blur to you.

It is ok to have friends and to hang out with them too. But when your group of friends become so exclusive that people too tall, short, black, white, sad, preppy, or happy cant hang with you then you have a problem.

When you tell somebody you dont want to hang out with them because they are to black or white even if they just don't live in the right neighborhood you are being prejudice.

Differences in this world are what make this world.

1 Define the problem or Opportunity

5 HIGH WAY

2 Their way

4 Brainstorm

3 My Way

Its simple think of what the final outcome or the situation is.

Listen to the person you are reasoning with and understand there side.

Share your feelings and let the other person know how YOU feel about it.

This is the beat part think of all the possible solutions. Keep these handy Get Creative think of everything. Avoid Criticism dont throw anything out. Piggyback Build on the best ideas

Go with the best idea that sprouted from the brain storm.

Plodders- They stick to there job and get it done before doing anything else. Followers- They support the leaders of the group. They go with anything good. Innovators- They are creative and think of the good ideas. They give the pizzazz. Harmonizers- Great synergizes. They are the glue in the group that keeps it together. Show-offs- Fun and creative. Sometimes hard to work with, but they bring the team to success.
