New Belgium Brewery Management Principles in the 21st Century

2 NEW BELGIUM BREWERY

New Belgium Brewery New Belgium is a brewery located in Fort Collins, Colorado. One of the strategies used in the management is to empower employees. This strategy gives the employees responsibility, autonomy and authority, which leads the employee to take actions and make decisions when he realizes a change needs to be made in any process, so that the brewery improves; this gives the employee the satisfaction that every decision or point he makes is important for the continuity of the factory. The other strategy would be like a reward system, but with the difference that this can only be acquired with a year of hard and satisfactory work in the brewery; this motivational strategy enables the employees to become owners in the brewery, so that they can have a share of it. The opinion that the Top Management has about their employees is that every one of them is important and a crucial part of the process, because without them the success could not be possible. Most of the decisions taken to change the processes in some way are made by the employees, so then the improvements are thanks to them. I would say that the motivational theories used by New Belgium brewery are the Expectancy theory, Need theories and Goal-setting theory. The expectancy theory is used when the employee in the factory starts to work at a high level so it can receive a desired outcome. The need theories is made when they determine what will satisfy the employees so they can work better, in this case would be participation, making him believe he is crucial. The Goal-Setting theory works when everyone works to accomplish a goal in common, a goal they think is very important and will produce a good feedback and outcome in the future. 300
