Abus Keypad Installation

An Abus Keypad is an audio keypad that receives signal


and control from a CAT5e cable, and outputs to speakers
via 16-4 or 2 16-2 speaker wires. It acts as a small

amplifier for the speakers. The keypad is usually installed
during the trim phase, and a matching decora style wall
plate is required to finish the installation.

Skill Level Intermediate

Instructions:
1. Carefully extend the Cat5e wire and the 16-4/16-2 Speaker wire.
2. Strip the Cat5e and the speaker wire back about 2 inches.
3. Cut and discard the inner white pull strings and unravel all the Cat5e wires.
4. Strip back about 1/8” of the ends of the speaker wire.
5. Place the Cat5e wires on the keypad punch down black in accordance to the labels on the keypad.
B = Brown
BW = Brown/White
G = Green
GW = Green/White
O = Orange
O = Orange/White
BL = Blue
BLW = Blue/White
6. Use the punch down tool to secure the wires to the keypad.
7. Remove any excess wires hanging past the punch down block.
8. Insert the speaker wire into the terminals labeled “Speaker Out”.
-If using a 16-4 wire to the speakers, connect the wires accordingly:
R+ = Red
R- = Black
L- = Green
L+ = White
-If using 2 16-2 wires to the speakers connect the wires accordingly:
R+ = Red (Wire 1)
R- = Black (Wire 1)
L- = Red (Wire 2)
L+ = Red (Wire 2)
9. Tighten to the screw terminals with the small flat head screwdriver to secure the wires.
10. Insert the keypad into box, and secure with provided screws.
11. Install decora style plate over the keypad to finish the installation.
