Symbolic Retribution

Definition- A punishment that symbolizes a crime that was once


committed.
In Circle Two, three examples of symbolic retribution are Rachel who stands for
the contemplative life because she brought complicated thoughts and questions to Dante’s
mind, Lucia stood for divine light because all she did was spread heavenly vibes, and
flames stood for a guilty conscious because to feel guilty is like a flame its always
burning until it gets put out.
