Transportation plays a vital role in cultural growth & economic growth of any country. The govt. of India has made considerable outlay in constructing & mainting roads and highway and so transportation plays crucial role for the economic development of the country. Midas is one of Indias largest suppliers of tyre retrading materials.48% of rubber is consumed by 30 tyre manufactures other 25% by tread rubber

NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study helps to understand the working pattern of the organization and it helps to improve decision-making skill. Conducting organizational study is necessary factor for awarding the degree certificate. The organizational study helps to get a good knowledge about the industry. It helps to understand the culture in the organization and its effectiveness on employees.

METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY

The researcher interviewed various members of the companys management as well as the supervisory and athor workers. The data collected was processed in order to make it suitable to analysis. Editing of data was undertaken after all the personal interviewes were over.The data was checked for the completeness, accuracy and uniformity.

RUBBER INDUSTRY IN INDIA
Rubber is keralas primary and prestigious crop. It is cultivated in about 876000 hectors in the state and account for nearly 67%total area under major plantation crop. The use of rubber is widespread, as the characteristics and properties of these elastomers make them useful in almost all economic sectors: automobiles, footwear, civil construction, plastics, and others that of crucial importance in the daily life of society. Rubber is most widely used to produce tires. Rubbers are of various types that is natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and reclaim rubber. These three types of rubbers constitute the major and the most important raw materials of the tire industry and hold a strategic position in the countrys economy.
TYRE INDUSTRY
Tyre was invented in 19th centuries from the solid rubber tyre cotton plynuemetric tyre to radicalized tyre.Tyres and tubes, the strategic rubber products and basic supplements to the automotive vehicles are of utmost importance to the countrys economy. The tyre industry sector is providing direct
employment to over 40000 people and indirect employment to lakhs of pepple.This industry sector now being considered as a core industry sector. The manufacturing of automobile tyres as an essential ancillary for the development of automobile sector came in to being in India during the 1930s when the Dunlop India Ltd, the first tyre manufacturing transactional company started its operation in 1935 at Sahaganj in West Bengal... The interesting feature of the tyre industry in India is that starting from its inception to the present day; its progress has been influenced by repeated import of technical collaborations.
There is an urgent need to build up indigenous capabilities for tyre technology including the tyre machinery. In view of this, it was thought desirable to undertake there view of present status of this industry and to identify and analyse the critical required for absorption and up gradation of imported technology. During the early 80s ,procured retreding was introduced and is now well accepted because of its various advantages.In this process the buffed &inflated secondly the tyre was built under inflated conditions and lastly it was cured in a regularized manner incurring chamber inflated. In this process the trade was
initially cured to incure better mileage because the curing was taking place at fixed temperature or pressure and homogenetially was obtained them
Indian rubber industry now nine decades old and has become third largest of the nation, after steel textile industries .The no .of vehicles playing on the road are increasing day by day and it lead to the industry.
Tyre industry is indispensable to the auto mobile sector &tyre also thinks in terms of quality, cost optimum and utility etc.Midas mileage the highest mileage compounds are designed to lower running cost by maximizing Midas milage per reflect tyre. Midas is one of Indias largest suppliers of retrading materials. Forty-eight percentage of rubber is consumed by 30 tyre manufactures other 25%by tread rubber manufactures and the rest by foot ware makers and other rubber goods producers. George Varghese found general rubbers, with its Midas brand of retreading materialism 1969.Mr.George Varghese a creative thinker and industrialialist,who recognized the importance of retrading well before the retrading sector become popular in common, founded the present MIDAS PRE-CURED TREADS PVT Ltd .The leader in the procured treads and conventional treads in the present scenario. Mr. George Varghese presently heads the Midas group and his wife Mrs.Mariamma Varghese heads the unit in Tamilnadu.The Midas group was started a small tread rubber unit in Ettumanoor industrial estate in kottayam district, which is known as (the rubber land of Kerala.)(Kottayam district is the highest producer of rubber in India) with the initial investment 65,000 in 1969.In 1985 July 31st MIDAS, PRECURED TREADS PVT (Ltd) was established as a small scale unit at Ettumanoor. It has mainly engaged in manufacturing of pre-cured tread rubber. Now the company is a medium scale unit. Indias largest rubber compounding unit belongs to the Midas group known as

Midas rubber private Ltd.This companys mixing capacity is 180 tonne per day. It is the Midas, which is supplying rubber compounds to many of Indian major tyre companies like Apollo tyers, j.k tyers as per their needs. Midas produces 1800-2000 tones per month. The major revenue for the group is form the sale of procured tread rubber and its market is entirely out side kerala. The introduction of procured treads in India made MIDAS in the forefront with the availability of the best raw material that is the natural rubber close at hand. MIDAS produces world-class rubber products such as pre-cured treads, camel back tread, vulcanizing cement, cushion gum, curing bags, caring bags, caring envelop bonding gum etc.Now the company has 36-tread rubber manufacturing units, 26-in kerala, 8-in Pondichary and 2-in madras and the groups turnover is 100 crore quality wice and revenue wice.it is the no.1 company in the field. CONVENTIONAL TREADS
These are non-cured treads having no designs. These treads are cured at the time of retrading process company manufacture treads of various size which the tyre of various vehicles tyres.
RETREADING
As the tyre moves on the road, the road position wear off gradually. The process of removing the old worn out thread and replacing it with a tread surface is called retrading.Tread rubber is the material used to replace the wearing surface on tyres. The old useless tyre can be made to run for almost equal milege as a new tyre by treading with in the cost not exceeding 1/3rd of the new
tyre.usually tyre can be retread as many as 4-5 times depending on the casing strength. In retreading industry commonly two methods are adopted ,they are es 1. Hot process 2. cold process
HOT PROCESS OF RETREDING

Conventional tread is also known as hot process. It is a kind of retreading procuring in which the company makes rubber sheet in a plain form and all sold

to the retraders .It is the retreaders who convert the sheet in to different shapes and designs with the customers specification with the help of moulds. Heavy vehicles generally use this process of retreading .This process gives more milege compared to pre-cured treads.
COLD PROCESS OF RETREADING

Cold process of retreading is called as the pre-cured retreding.Pre-cured retreading is the method of retreading in which already cured tread rubber having tread pattern is adhered to the type of casing using cushion gum and vulcanizing solution between them. The temperature of this process is below 1000c.A tyre with worn out tread may still contain a healthy caring.
BONDING GUM AND VULCANIZING SOLUTIONS These are associated products essential for the retreading process.In a called process a pre mode is stuk to the casing bonding gum. high quality Bonding Gum is manufactured for retreading process to suit curing temperatures of 99C , 125C and 150C.the gum is made from 100% natural rubber to increase tack. It can be used to fill nail holes and repair injured parts of casing. The technical specifications are given below:

RECRUITMENT Midas recruitment board consists of 3-members who handle the recruitment process of the staff of the company. It is a direct process in which applications are collected, scrutinized and called for interview. The board is the final authority regarding the appointment of the staff.

Midas sells its products in the open market directly through Group Company Midas marketing and network dealers. Midas finds the customers do not want to be tied down with a single manufacture. As a result they prefer the open Markey system along with a dealer by this system in the future as well.
Midas has more than 30 dealers in India, and only one dealer in kerala (MM Chandy &co ).Midas sell about 125-150 tones per month, which is about 20% of the kerala market. In the western Indian states Midas has maximum dealers due

The sale of all the Midas products is based on the head office sales policies and norms. The sales department receives order from agents, dealers, contracters etc and passes the order to the factory manager for production. Then the final product is then moved to the dispatch manager and is sold to the customers. Order receiving and dispatch are the major functions of the sales department.

The prime factor of the MIDAS promotional policy is that right quality product, right price, right time delivery.The executive makes periodic visit to the dealer, agents, and to ensure that the sales are increasing.The company provides all arrangements and facilities to the dealer and agents on their arrival to the head office.They are being taken to the place of interesting the tourist attraction.

The company adopt cost+ profit pricing for its products. This is due to the facts that these are agriculture-based products and are seasonal in nature. so it is relevant for the company to adopt cost + profit pricing. The price rate adopted by the company is less compared to the treading competitors.

MIDAS has established a high branding in market. MIDAS monthly production and sales comes around 1000mt can be appropriately used for 1.76 lakhs for retrading.In one tyre retrading sheet there are around seven MIDAS branded labels are pasted. In which 7*1, 75,000 = 1, 22, 25,000 labels are printed and branded all over India .MIDAS products are pasted in the name MIDAS MILEAGE.

INTRODUCTION
Production is the process of conversion of inputs men material, machine, methods, and management, in to out put through a transformation process. Production department is expected to carry out production in required quality at minimum cost. Orders received from the customers are communicated to production department and production is co-related with order. Details of production such as quantity, cost, work in progress, wastage etc. are maintained in the office for control purpose.

PRODUCTION PROCESS
The process of manufacture of pre-cured treads involve mastification, mixing, extrution, moulding, and buffing steps.

MASTIFICATION
Open roll mixers or internal roll mixers are aroused for the raw materials is first mastificated for reducing the viscosity and increasing the plasticity at its attaining a certain level of plasticity.to the mastificated rubber, other compounding ingredient, are added which is dispersed easily.
MIXING
The mastificated rubber is mixed with the various compounding ingredients and temperature of mixing does not exeed above 900c.,then the mixed compound is sheeted and cut and washed for cooling in room temperature for 24-hours/ the final compound is called MASTER BATCH
EXTRUSION
It is the processing operation intended to shape the compound in required shape.
CURING
This is done by compression of moulding method.the compound is filled and placed in to the previously designed and preheated moulds maintained at required temperature and pressure. After required time and cured tread is taken and allowed for post cuing.

BUFFING
The cured tread is buffed on the base side to present a clear surface that is properly for adhesion to the tyre casing by mean of bonding layers of cushion Gum. In pre-cured treading these tread is used which has no further curing during the process. PRODUCTION LAYOUT Production layout is called product layout or straight line layout.It involves the arrangement of the machine in one line.depending upon the sequence of operation.Materials are fed in to the first machine and finished product come out

The company is striving its level best to maintain the consistency in quality and service due to staff competition $ high staff evasion in the market. The objective of the study is to understand and find out the functioning of various departments in organization set up. This study about establishment and functioning of administrative and related to the functional department at MIDAS PRE-CUED TREADS PVT Ltd. The study also gives a clear idea about the operations and working of the different departments in an industry. Threats, weakness of the company are also added in the study. In order to reduce the weakness and threats certain suggestions are also put forward. In short, the organization study at MIDASPRE-CURED Ltd was successful one.
