Graphing Instructions

1. After you open a new spread, type your name into A1.

2. Beginning in A5 and ending in A11, type the following: Stage, Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase,
Anaphase, Telophase and Total. In cell B5 type "# of Cells". In cell C5 type "% of Time".

3. In the B11 box, select the = sign. Next to the equal sign type the following: SUM (B6:B10).

4. Under the # of cells columns, enter the number of cells in each phase from your specimen.

5. Select C6 and click on the = sign. In the tool bar’s blank space, type B6/B11*100. Click OK. You
have just created the formula for a percentage. Now, using the tool bar, decrease the number of decimal
spaces to one. Repeat this same process for C7, C8, C9, and C10 and remember to change the B value to
the current cell.

6. To begin graphing the data, you must select the data table. To select the entire graphing table, use your
cursor to click on A% and drag it to C10. Now, your data table should be highlighted. (The ‘Total’
should not be highlighted.) Then, click on the tool bar’s graph icon and choose “pie” as you begin the
chart wizard. Click Next. Do not make any changes to step 2 and click next. For step 3, change the title
to “Percent of Time in the Cell Cycle". Then, at the top, select the tab – Data Labels and “show label”.
Then, click finished.

7. Then, make sure the graph is not overlapping with the data table and save it. Then, select File and
Print.
