The University of Oklahoma is presented the first-place scholarship. From left: Yashwanth Chitrala, Bachir Mahomad, Kristin Weyand, Dr. Carl Sondergeld, Michael Aman, Brian Edge, and ExxonMobils Chuck Roberts. international schools than American schools, and a lack of a buzzer system for the morning rounds. ExxonMobils Jonathan Gilbert, Gulf Coast Section Young Professionals (GCS YP) and one of the PetroBowl coordinators, affectionately labeled the morning rounds SlapBowl, as students were
required to slap the table in order to answer a question. Participants seemed to rather enjoy what otherwise would have been a certain calamity as they mercilessly beat the tables to be recognized to answer a question. ConocoPhillips Dan Tobins powerful voice and Ryder Cups Lucas Smiths statistical prowess proved invaluable to executing a successful competition as these GCS YPs served as moderator and statistician, respectively. As the day progressed, the University of Oklahoma was able to successfully navigate its way to the final round and defeat Missouri University of Science and Technology. This was the third win for the University of Oklahoma in the past four years a feat unaccomplished by any other school. Matthew Paradeis, a graduate student at Missouri S&T, was named the tournaments MVP for answering the most questions correctly. PetroBowl was hosted by the SPE GCS YPs in partnership with PetroSkills. ExxonMobil sponsored a post-competition reception and scholarships for the first- and second-place teams. PetroBowl is unlike any other event held by SPE. The GCS YPs began collaborating with the host city's YPs in April to ensure a successful competition. This is a great example of YP sections coming together to host an event. PetroBowl facilitates the creation of strong relationships between young professionals from across the globe. Students also benefit by networking with their peers and seeing the type of event they could one day host once they have gone on to industry and joined a YP section. PetroBowl has become far larger and more ambitious than what its founders first envisioned. Regional PetroBowl competitions are sprouting up all over the world, and the GCS YPs are routinely receive with e-mails requesting advice on how to run a quality competition. Certainly as PetroBowl begins its second decade, the scale and scope to which we are accustomed will grow and become more of an influence on young professionals and students everywhere.

PetroBowl participation is free and open to SPE Student Chapters in good standing. Teams are responsible for all expenses (including but not limited to: conference registration, travel, and lodging) and authorizations required to enter the country. We cannot provide any support on these issues.
Official registration for PetroBowl 2011 begins at 4:00 PM CST (Central Standard Time) on Friday, 22 April 2011. The first 24 teams to register will be guaranteed a spot in PetroBowl 2011, provided they meet the eligibility requirements defined in the competition rules. Additional teams will be added to the wait list. Each student chapter is only allowed one team, and additional registrations will be ignored. Registration ends on Tuesday, 31 May 2011.
Please note that PetroBowl roster size will be limited to 5 students (no more than 1 graduate student). Rosters will be requested at a later date.
If your team registers then later realizes it will be unable to attend PetroBowl 2011, we will need notice at least 1 month before the date of the competition. Failure to provide notice of cancellation will result in lower priority registration for your team at future PetroBowl competitions.
