Andalusian classical music is a style of Moorish music found across North Africa and Southern Iberia, though it evolved out of the music of Andalusia between the 9th and 15th centuries, during a period known as AlAndalus. Influence of Andalusian music: Andalusia was probably the main route of transmission of a number of NearEastern musical instruments used in classical music: the rebec (ancestor of violin) from the rebab, the guitar from qitara and naker from naqareh.

LA VIHUELA (S. XV XVI) El Renacimiento

Vihuela is a name given to two different guitar-like string instruments: one from 15th and 16th century Spain, usually with 12 paired strings, and the other, the Mexican vihuela, from 19th century Mexicowith five strings and typically played in Mariachi bands.

LA ZARZUELA (S. XII) Spanish Opera


Zarzuela is a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and sung scenes, the latter incorporating operatic and popular song, as well as dance. Here are two main forms of zarzuela: Baroque zarzuela (c.16301750), the earliest style, and Romantic zarzuela (c.18501950).

Zarzuela spread to the Spanish colonies, and many Hispanic countries notably Cuba developed their own traditions. There is also a strong tradition in the Philippines where it is also known as zarzuelta.
