LITERATURE REVIEW
Facebook allow individuals to Be oriented towards work-related contexts, romantic relationship initiation, connecting those with shared interests such as music or politics Members can also join virtual groups based on common interests, to see what interest do they share with others, and learn each others' hobbies, interests, musical tastes, and romantic relationship status through the profiles, all the phenomenon defines the advantages of Facebook

Using Facebook takes time. Often, a LOT of time!

Greatest factor for individuals is to socialize and the passion to socialize is increasing Their irresistible need to connect with their peers, joined with the development of 24/7 accessible technologies, can make the use of sites like Facebook irresistible, this requires a huge chunk of your time, which will eventually create a time depletion that will make students inapt of completing academic taks.

The social network approach holds that the behavior of an individual is affected by the relationships and the technology that he might posses rather than the norms he practices (Heng-Li Yang September 2003 Friendship Networks Friendship between two people can emerge only if and when their paths cross. They would be more likely to meet and share. A student who is in to a friendship network has more opportunities to access resources that may be important to successful academic performance A student who is central in a friendship network has a greater chance of helping others and also being helped thus, he is likely to perform better in the instructional setting, and so people who are central in friendship network are likely to be popular in web-based forum

Advice Networks Advice networks are such networks through which students can share resources eg. Information, assistance, guidance which are related to their work. The advice network is more practical than friendship network A person who is a part of advice networks is likely to perform better in class because he possesses task-related information, experience and guidance Adversarial Networks Adversarial relations refer to those relations that may involve negative exchanges. Those kinds of relations cause emotional distress, anger, or unresponsiveness. They have been found to have a drastic effect on the students performance and satisfaction, thus it is negatively related to performance.

Side effects of social networking

Few of the side effects of social networking adversely effects on your behavior and performance, one of the biggest affect is too much time on the internet. One of the alarming things are the online games available on social networks eg Farmville, Cityville, poker, etc A dramatic changed seen in students behavior is that they will not spent the required time on studies as they are asked to, brag about the position and level that they are on the games online, how many friends are their as their partners, scores, records etc. Individuals who have not achieved these positions on online games will now also join in adding to the adverse effects of social networking. Some of the side effects that people have gone through with online poker addiction are the inability to eat and constant uneasiness.

DATA ANALYSIS

Questionnaire and online findings about Facebook were chosen as our tools to gather the primary data from the Hamdard university student. Questionnaire can help us identify some fundamental data about student opinion towards Facebook

Our research on Facebook effect among the student in Hamdard university has gather questionnaire data from 50 respondents. From those numbers 81 percent of the respondents are male students and the rest are female students

From above figure 3.2 our respondents mainly come from 21 to 25 years old group. They are 31 students that fall into this group. The rest is 19 to 20 years old, which are 14 students. Only few respondents are into the 25 above group. Beside the data that shown in figure 3.3 can give us information that our respondents most of them register on Facebook during 2009. On 2008 and 2007 the numbers of student register on Facebook dont differ that much.

Advantages and Disadvantages of using Facebook

Most of our respondents think that Facebook can give them benefit in friendship. It helps them to be more social because Facebook allow it user to post comment about other people activity. Facebook user also can send message among of them. Then beside the friendship benefit Facebook affect students relationship and study. As shown in figure 3.4 below, 25 percent of the respondents agree Facebook has given benefit to their relationship and 14 percent of the respondent answer it benefit their study. The rest said Facebook dont give any benefit to them.

Then about Facebook impact, from figure 3.5 below it show us that most of our respondents think Facebook waste their times. Other response said it impact their study and relationship. Until now our topic seems to be accurate and our assumption is becoming positive. Yet further more analysis will reveal the impact of Facebook.

Inside our questionnaire we also asked student about their behavior inside the class room related to the Facebook. Is there any student has experience opening Facebook during the class? From figure 3.6 below we can see that 23 students out of 50 has experience in opening Facebook during the class and the rest, which is 25 student dont experience it.

The figure 3.7 below is about respondent opinion about the effect of Facebook to the students academic performance. Respondents are mainly agreed that Facebook gives many advantages than disadvantages. Beside that our respondents mainly disagree if the student performance will be better without Facebook. But our respondents also agree that Facebook waste their time.

the figure 3.9 it inform us about our respondent behavior in term of their activity while accessing the internet. Most of the student normally just surf on the internet as we can see they put the surfing internet as rank number one. Then open elearning as their second rank. But we can also see the rank number two has quite unique, because total respondent for other option are same. Only open e-learning show an outlier. The rest are check email in rank number three and open Facebook in rank number four, the lowest priority.

Then in figure 3.10 show us more specific information, it about student activity while accessing Facebook. Most of our respondents prefer to choose check inbox or wall as their main priority, then after it chatting as second priority. After chatting, our respondents prefer check notification as their priority rather than playing online games in Facebook.

Moving ahead figure 3.11 shown below having too many friends will require heavy activity on Facebook i.e. wall posts, tags etc. to keep up with this social life too much time is needed. 44% of the respondents choosed that it does not takes too much time, and 56% of the respondents stated that its not too much time consuming
