This article discusses CATE 2011 - the common entrance exam conducted by Delhi University
for admission to one of its prestigious undergraduate level programmes i.e. B.A. in English
(Hons). As a matter of fact, the CATE examination is gaining recognition as more and more DU
colleges (17 to be precise) start accepting students on the basis of marks scored in this common
entrance exam. Following is the list of colleges where you can seek admission through the CATE
entrance exam -

The Delhi University defines the following criteria as pre-requisites for appearing in this
common entrance exam:-

1. Having secured the Higher Secondary Examination certificate (10+2) or its equivalent
from one of the recognized State or National Board.
Note: In case you have been waiting for your Class 12th results, you can still appear in
the CATE entrance test.
2. Having obtained a minimum of 60% marks in English subject in your Higher Secondary
examination.
3. Having obtained a minimum of 60% aggregate marks, in the best of four subjects, in your
Higher Secondary examination.

1). Application forms are available at all these 17 colleges listed above.
2). You are required to submit only one application form even if you wish to apply for
admission to more than one of these colleges.
3). The participating colleges will be assigning 70% weightage to your CATE score, and 30%
weightage to your Board results.
4). Exam pattern - The CATE examination comprises two parts, namely Multiple Choice
Questions and Descriptive Type Questions. Both these sections need to be attempted, if you wish
to qualify for B.A. English (Hons) through CATE 2011.
