CUANTIFICADORES: MUCH, MANY, LITTLE, FEW, A LOT, LOTS OF, PLENTY. 1.

Usamos much y little con sustantivos incontables como: time, luck, sugar, ice cream, Money, milk, energy, etc. • Much time, little energy, little money, much sugar…

2. Usamos many y few con sustantivos en plural: friends, cars, people, countries, etc: • Many friends, many people, few cars, few countries…

3. Usamos a lot of, lots of, plenty of, con ambos tipos de sustantivos (incontables y plurales): • • A lot of luck, lots of time, plenty of money, A lot of friends, lots of people, plenty of ideas.

4. Usamos much y many especialmente en frases negativas e interrogativas. A lot of es también posible:

• •

Do you know many people? I don’t go out much.

(¿Conoces mucha gente?) (Yo no salgo mucho)

5. En frases afirmativas, es mas común usar a lot of . Es poco común usar much en afirmativas en el idioma Inglés:

We spent a lot of Money.

(no es recomendable “We spent much Money”)

6. En frases afirmativas se puede usar many, pero es mejor a lot of:

A lot of people.

(ó también “ many people”).

7. En frases afirmativas se puede usar so much ó too much (muchísimo): • We spent too (so) much Money.

8. little y few, sin la “a” antecediéndolos, son ideas negativas (no de negación, sino como malas.): • • There is little time He has few friends (hay poco tiempo) (El tiene pocos amigos)

9. a little y a few son ideas mas positivas:

Let’s go and have a drink. We have a little time. Tenemos un poco de tiempo) Do you speak English? “A little”.

(vamos a tomar un trago.

10. a few = some, una pequeña cantidad:

I saw Clare a few days ago.

(Ví a Clare hace unos días).
