Business Manager ’s Report

Local 332 has been undergoing some significant staff changes
s i n c e t h e l a s t i s s u e o f o u r N e w s l e t t e r. Te r r y Ta n n e r h a s
announced his retirement as Business Manager/Financial Secretary
of Local 332 effective July 31, 2003. Bob Tragni was appointed
by the Executive Board to complete the unexpired term of
Business Manager/Financial Secretary and was sworn in by
the Membership at the meeting held on July 1, 2003.
Newsletter

In addition to Terry announcing his retirement, Pete Reyes, Local Union Treasurer
has announced his retirement to be effective September 1, 2003. Pete is leaving
L o c a l 3 3 2 a f t e r o v e r 3 0 y e a r s o f s e r v i c e t o t h e L o c a l a n d i t s m e m b e r s . We
wish Pete well in his retirement. After careful consideration Dick Perez was
hired as a Business Representative. Dick began work at Local 332 on July 8,
2003 and is quickly learning the various aspects of the job. We are also looking
to hire an Organizer at Local 332, if you are interested in this position, please
call Liz at (408) 979-5526 and have her place your name on the list of applicants.

Robert "Bob" Tragni Dick Perez

Business Manager/Financial Business Representative
Secretary

Bob is a native of San Jose, California. Bob
graduated from the IBEW 332 Apprenticeship
in 1975 and has been a member of Local 332
since 1966. Bob has served as Assistant Business
Manager since 1999. In this capacity he has
supervised all Job Targeting, coordinated organizing
activities, conducted new member orientation
and COMET classes. Bob has also served as
a T r u s t e e o n t h e L o c a l ' s H e a l t h a n d We l f a r e
and Pension Plans, has negotiated agreements
for Residential Electricians and Material Handlers
and has participated in several negotiations for
the Inside Agreement.
Bob's roots in Local 332 reach way back, his
father, Vince Tragni has been a member of Local
332 for over 50 years, his brother Pete was
also a member of Local 332 prior to his untimely
death. Bob brings a wealth of knowledge and
commitment to the job. He received unanimous
support from the Executive Board and Members
o f L o c a l 3 3 2 i n t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t . We w i s h
him well in this new position and know that he
will continue to work in the best interests of
Local 332 and its members.
Dick is a native of San Jose, California. Dick
Also graduated from the Local 332 apprenticeship
in 1975 and has been a member of IBEW
Local 332 since 1971. Dick has served Local
332 and its members in many capacities over
the years. His elected offices have included
Executive Board member, Vice President and
m o s t r e c e n t l y R e c o r d i n g S e c r e t a r y. D i c k
was one of the founders of the IBEW softball
team. He was instrumental in starting the
IBEW Public Relations Committee and began
t h e I B E W L i b r a r y. D i c k h a s s e r v e d a s a
member of the Labor/Management Liaison
Committee, the Progress Committee and has
served on several Negotiating Committees.
In addition to all of his activities on behalf
of Local 332, Dick also ran for San Jose
City Council, Evergreen District 8 in 1992.
We look forward to having Dick on staff and
are confident that the membership will gain
from his tireless energy and commitment to
Local 332.

News From NorCal

TOURNAMENT As you may have noted in my last report NorCal

has filed an appeal with the DAS (Dept. of
Tuesday, September 9, 2003 Apprenticeship Standards) to review the application
Cinnabar Hills, of Western Fire Burglar Association for an
apprenticeship which we feel covers a large portion of the scope
San Jose of work we cover in our existing NorCal S and C apprenticeship.
The California Attorney General's office has this matter under
review and is asking the obvious questions of validity and performance.

for more information CSI has released the NEW DIVISION FORMAT (Draft #4)
The old familiar Division 16 (Electrical) and other old Divisions

CEDIA (Custom Electronics Design and Installation Assoc.) ICIA/

InfoComm (International Communications Industries Assoc.) and
NSCA (National Systems Contractors Association) have merged
their shows into one for the Asian and European markets. This
may be a view intothe future of the domestic Electronic/Communications
marketplace. Remember these associations are mostly supported
by non-union contractors and workers that compete for the same
dollars we do.

The new chips for IEEE 802.11b, 11a and 802.11g have become
cheaper. WLANs sold in 2002 were 8 million and 33 million are
expected to be sold by the end of 2003 thereby driving the cost
down. This means the wireless home video surveillance systems
and broadband home AV systems will soon be on the shelf of
your nearest electronics retailer.

All of the Trustees and Training Support personnel involved in

Training of Sound and Communication Apprentices gather to learn
and exchange new and old ideas on July 31st. The 14th Biannual
S&C Instructor Seminars will be held in late August or early
September, primarily Sound and Communication Training Instructors
gather to learn and exchange new and old ideas.
