LINEAR ACTUATOR TROUBLESHOOTING, REPAIR KITS
AND INSTALLATION INSTRUcnONS
FOR 8-4225 ELECfRIC LIFT KIT

General: The chart below will be helpful for isolating malfunctions in the control system, countering
difficulties' with system start-up, and in troubleshooting for worn or broken mechanical or electrical
components in units which have been operating for some time. For correct diagnosis it is important to do all
tests before disassembling the actuator.

Symptom: Actuator will not extend/retract

Checkpoint Probable Cause Possible Solution

No voltage or amp draw Actuator not receiving power Check power supply
------------------
Proper voltage, no amp draw Dead motor Replace motor
Thermal overlaod cut-out Let cool, check duty
(when overheated) cycle

Proper voltage, amp draw present, Excessive shock loads or vibration Check for possible
clutch not slipping throughout life of actuator stripped gears

Proper voltage, amp draw present, Actuator overloaded Check rated load
clutch slips
Clutch worn too low Replace clutch
(Excessive ratcheting)

ISymptom: Actuator stops In mid-stroke

Checkpoint Probable Cause Possible Solution

Clutch slips Actuator overloaded Check rated load

Clutch doesn't slip, no amps Blown fuse Replace fuse

Thermal cut-out Let cool, check duty
cycle

Clutch doesn't slip, amps present Motor stalled Check voltage

(too low)

Symptom: Actuator does not hold position

Checkpoint Probable Cause Possible Solution

Actuator will not extend or retract Excessive shock loads or vibration Check for possible
throughout life of actuator stripped gears

At this point remove actuator from the mechanism to run by itself. Watch and listen for any
changes in behavior.

Replacement parts are available for Warner Electric linear actuators
in kit form, through WHEEL HORSE parts distribution. Description of kits,
installation instructions, diagrams and part numbers are included below.
REPAIR KIT INSTALLATION
NOTE: All screws can be replaced with standard machine screws (#12-24 and
#10-32). Tighten all screws/nuts to 70 in-Ibs upon reassembly
(except single screw in rear housing - tightened to 20 in-Ibs).
NOTE: GREASE - Rear Housing is packed approximately half full with
Mobilplex #47 grease. Also, a bead of this grease has
been placed on Drive Screw. When servicing these areas
equivalent lubricant (Calcium base E.P. Multi-purpose
grease) must be present for proper operation of
actuator.
