GRADE 12 MID-TERM REVIEW GUIDE

1. ABOUT THE EXAM:


A. The exam will consist of two types of questions,
multiple choice and open questions.
B. It will be structured according benchmarks, meaning
you will be provided a benchmark followed by
multiple choice questions and/or open questions
pertaining to that particular benchmark.
C. Your Mid-Term will come from Standard One, Two,
Three and Four

2. OBJECTIVES AND CONCEPTS


UNIT 1
1.1 Discuss the development of the field of sociology as a
social science.
- Why did sociology come about
- What is sociology
1.2 Identify early leading theorists within social science
(e.g., Auguste Comte, EmileDurkheim, Herbert
Spencer, Max Weber, C. Wright Mills, and Karl
Marx).
-Know the leading theorists and what they are
responsible for
UNIT 2
2.1 Define the key components of a culture, such as
language and communication, technology,values,
norms, and symbols.
-Be able to define each and explain them with
examples
2.2 Explain the differences between a culture and a
society.
2.3 Recognize the influences of genetic inheritance and
culture on human behavior.
-understand the difference between nurture and
nature
2.5 Identify and explain the factors that promote cultural
diversity within a country.

-cultural relativism
2.6 Compare and contrast different types of societies,
such as hunting and gathering, agrarian,industrial, and
post-industrial.
-what do these societies have in common? How are they
different?
UNIT 3
3.1 Describe how social status affects social order (e.g.,
upper class/middle class/lowerclass;
professional/blue collar/unemployed).

3.2 Explain how roles and role expectations can lead to
role conflict (e.g., roles of menand women; age;
racial and/or ethnic groups within different
societies).

UNIT 4
4.1 Identify major characteristics of social groups
familiar to the students
-time, size (dyad, triad, small group) and organization
(formal group, informal group,reference group, in-
groups and out-group, ecommunities, social
networks)of groups – you will have to identify these
with groups you know
4.7 Explain how students are members of primary and
secondary groups and how those group
memberships influence students’ behavior

3 . Cultural relativism is
