The sprawling campus is located ina picturesque 780 acre setting at the confluence of the rivers Jumar and Subarnarekha. Essentially a hub of bustling student activities, the beautiful campus has been a second-home to thousands of students in their journey to challenge the times. Established in 1955 by visionary-industrialist Mr. B.M. Birla, it is today one of the most premier engineering destinations in India. BIT Mesra is a ‘Deemed University’ under sec, 3 of the UGC act 1956. His Excellency, the Governor of Jharkhand is The Chancellor of the University and Shri C.K. Birla is the Chairman of the Board of Governors. Keeping up with the times has never been enough at BIT as ithas mostly been either atthe top of ranking surveys or the first among initiators of path breaking ideas. From the introduction of new academic programmes to re-structuring the current ones, from improving infrastructure to upgrading teaching skills, the student's welfare has always been the focal point in BIT's larger picture. As a result, the Institute enjoys an unsurpassed reputation in academia and corporate circles being the preferred manpower source for many industries not only in India but also abroad. BIT Mesra had been conceived with a vision to be recognized as a world-class learning institution for engineering and technology. But it has moved beyond the fulfilment of a scholastic promise to re-defining education in the new age through creation of aptitude and comprehensive intelligence. Targets are achieved everyday, only to make space fornewer dreams. AMI Unit (Jharkhand Chapter) BIT Mesra is one of the registered and recognized units of AMI having more than 300 members (LM/AM). We are annually holding 1-2 day sensitization programmes related with biotechnology and microbiology for the benefits of the members and non members. Department of Biotechnology The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2002 with financial support from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand, with objectives like providing education and training facilities, cartying out application oriented research, developing in-house technologies and promoting consultancy services in various areas of Biotechnology. The department offers B.E., M. Tech. program in Biotechnology, M.Sc (Bioinformatics) and Doctoral programmes in all areas of Biotechnology. Birsa Agricultural University Birsa Agricultural University was established on 26th June, 1981 after its formal inauguration by the then Prime Minister of India, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi. Its primary objective is to develop area specific technologies and manpower in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry for the agricultural development of the plateau region of Bihar and economic upliftment of tribal and other backward class population of the region. The programmes and activities of education, research and extension are carried out through three faculties (Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry) with thirty five departments, College of Biotechnology, six Directorates, three Zonal Research Stations and farms, one University farm, twelve Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Computer Centre, Central Library and other infrastructure and service units. Being a completely residential university, hostels for boys and girls, and residential facilities for Teachers/Scientists and supporting staff have been provided in the campus. Central University of Jharkhand The Central University of Jharkhand came into being under this Act on 1st of March 2009. The Visitor of the Central University of Jharkhand, Her Excellency, Shrimati Pratibha Patil, appointed Dr. Darlando T. Khathing, an internationally renowned scientist and a distinguished academic administrator, as its first Vice Chancellor. The temporary campus of the University is located at Brambe, a 25 kilometer drive from Ranchi City. Itis a beautiful campus of green trees and rolling grounds of around 45 acres. tis a symbiotic assimilation of world class education structure with the best of Nature's benefits. The hi-tech infrastructure of the campus not only helps in honing the intellectual-edge of each learner, but it also accentuates the learner's assets to suit his needs in this globalized era.
