Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi
For over five decades, BIT Mesra (located 16 kms from Ranchi, The Jharkhand state capital) has been
engaged in nurturing minds through a rich heritage of academic excellence. The sprawling campus is located
ina picturesque 780 acre setting at the confluence of the rivers Jumar and Subarnarekha. Essentially a hub of
bustling student activities, the beautiful campus has been a second-home to thousands of students in their
journey to challenge the times.
Established in 1955 by visionary-industrialist Mr. B.M. Birla, it is today one of the most premier engineering
destinations in India. BIT Mesra is a ‘Deemed University’ under sec, 3 of the UGC act 1956. His Excellency,
the Governor of Jharkhand is The Chancellor of the University and Shri C.K. Birla is the Chairman of the Board
of Governors. Keeping up with the times has never been enough at BIT as ithas mostly been either atthe top of
ranking surveys or the first among initiators of path breaking ideas. From the introduction of new academic
programmes to re-structuring the current ones, from improving infrastructure to upgrading teaching skills,
the student's welfare has always been the focal point in BIT's larger picture. As a result, the Institute enjoys an
unsurpassed reputation in academia and corporate circles being the preferred manpower source for many
industries not only in India but also abroad.
BIT Mesra had been conceived with a vision to be recognized as a world-class learning institution for
engineering and technology. But it has moved beyond the fulfilment of a scholastic promise to re-defining
education in the new age through creation of aptitude and comprehensive intelligence. Targets are achieved
everyday, only to make space fornewer dreams.
AMI Unit (Jharkhand Chapter)
BIT Mesra is one of the registered and recognized units of AMI having more than 300 members (LM/AM). We

region. The programmes and activities of education, research and extension are carried out through three
faculties (Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry) with thirty five departments,
College of Biotechnology, six Directorates, three Zonal Research Stations and farms, one University farm,

an internationally renowned scientist and a distinguished academic administrator, as its first Vice Chancellor.
The temporary campus of the University is located at Brambe, a 25 kilometer drive from Ranchi City. Itis a
beautiful campus of green trees and rolling grounds of around 45 acres.
tis a symbiotic assimilation of world class education structure with the best of Nature's benefits. The hi-tech
