SELECTION

The process of selection leads to employment of persons


having the ability and qualifications to perform the jobs,
which have fallen vacant in an organization.

It divides the candidates for employment into two categories


namely those who will be offered, & those who will be
rejected.

Selection is frequently described as a negative process in


contrast with the positive process of recruitment.

The basic purpose of selection process is choosing right type


of candidate to man various positions in organization.

In order to achieve this basic purpose, a well-organized


selection procedure involves many steps and at each step
more and more information is obtained about the
candidates.

difference between RECRUITMENT & SELECTION.
• Recruitment is the process of searching for prospective
employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the
organization.
Selection means employment of workers or establishing a
contractual relationship between the employer and the
worker.

• Recruitment is a positive process of searching for


prospective employees
Selection is a negative process because it involves rejection
of unsuitable candidates.

• The purpose of recruitment is to create a large pool of


applicants for the jobs in the organization.
Selection aims at eliminating unsuitable candidates and
ensuring most competent people for the jobs.

• Recruitment is a simple process as the candidates are


required to fill in the prescribed forms and deposit with
the employer.
Selection is a complex & lengthy process under which the
candidates have to pass through a number of stages before
getting the offer job
