    Cells must perform three key jobs: produce proteins to control cell functions, generate energy for daily life and growth, and replicate to allow for growth, repair, and renewal of cells. The cytoskeleton provides structural support to maintain cell shape and anchor organelles, allows for cell motility through locomotion and structures like cilia and flagella, and organizes the structures and activities within the cell. It is composed of microfilaments, intermediate filaments and microtubules. During cell division in animal cells, a pair of centrioles organize microtubules into spindle fibers to guide chromosomes and separate copies to new daughter cells.
