Note: Believe it or not, I haven't had much time to play around with
this
game, so if I get some terminology wrong, I'm sorry, feel free to
correct
me.
IMPORTANT!!! Before using any of these codes, READ THIS SECTION in it's
entirerity. There is a lot of important information in this section.
Also, read any notes that may accompany the codes as many of the codes
are a bit glitchy.
This guide has been layed out much like my Golden Sun TLA guide, with
the codes split up into groups, and each code having a CBA, GSA and
PAR V3 section.
Almost all of these codes have come from the great guys at CMGSCCC. They
only code for CBA, so this guide is kind of a big organised list of
their
hard work, as well as conversions to the other code types. Every attempt
has been made to ensure the codes in this guide are accurate and will
not
damage your game, however:
DISCLAIMER

Q: Can you make a code to <insert thing you want the code to do here>?
A: Well, there's no harm in asking... just make sure I haven't told you
not to ask for it.
Q: Can you make a code for <insert game you want codes made for here>?
A: Maybe. There's just the wee problem of me actually having the game
but I have my, uh, sources. So it depends on whether I can be
bothered
or not. Check out www.cmgsccc.com or www.gscentral.com or
www.codejunkies.com or one of those kind of sites first.

AI. Usage
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
/
This section covers how to use the codes with the various cheating
devices. If you are deciding which device to buy, get a PAR V3. Despite
the fact that there are compatibility issues, it is now very easy to
encrypt V3 compatible codes, and the V3 has far more code types,
allowing
for advanced code types that the other devices do not have.
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
AI1. Codebreaker / Xploder
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
The Codebreaker Codes presented are compatible with all current versions
of Codebreaker and Xploder at the time of writing. Ensure you are using
the Codebreaker Enable codes and you shouldn't have any problems with
this. You do not to do anything to the Codebreaker codes, you can just
put them straight into your device. For more info and codes for
Codebreaker visit www.cmgsccc.com
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
AI2. Gameshark / Pro-Action Replay
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
Encryption
You may notice, that the GSA codes look a lot 'messier' than the CBA
codes.
This is because they have to be encrypted. To use GSA codes for 'slot
mods'
e.g. Item slot mod, you have to encrypt them first (all other codes have
already been encrypted). Please refer to the section on ARCrypt for
info
on how to do this. All other codes have already been encrypted
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
AI3. Pro-Action Replay V3
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
This latest version of the PAR uses a new encryption method compared to
it's earlier counteraparts, thus, a separate set of codes is needed.
These
codes can also be converted using ARCrypt with separate settings.
+=--=+=--=+=--=+
AI4. Emulators
+=--=+=--=+=--=+
The only Emulator these codes have been tested on, is VisualBoyAdvance.
In fact, most of the codes were hacked with VisualBoyAdvance. If you
have
any other emulator, I suggest you ditch it and go to
http://vboy.emuhq.com
and get the latest version.
Important Note: With versions that support PAR V3, you can enter the V3
codes into the Gameshark box. However, to distinguish them from
Gameshark
codes, you MUST include the <space> . Likewise, with GSA codes, you must
DELETE the <space> .
You do not need to enter any Enable codes when using an emulator.
Easy!

or

This section of the guide shows you how to convert the RAW codes listed
into either GSA/PAR codes or PAR V3 codes.
1. Boot up ARCrypt. You should see an editable text box on the left,
and uneditable text box on the right, and lots of strange buttons.
First, select 'Menu' and uncheck the 'Expert Mode' choice if it is
checked.
2. Select the RAW code you want to convert. Plug in the right values
for the xxxx .
3. Type in the complete RAW code into the left text box.
4. In the 'From' box, down the bottom left, select RAW.
5. In the 'To' box on the right, select the code type you want. If you
want either a Gameshark Advance code or a Pro-Action Replay V.1 or
V.2, select 'AR V.1/V.2'. If you want a Pro-Action Replay V3 code,
select 'AR V.3'If you select V3, you must also check the box below,
which says something like 'Convert AR V.1/V.2 to AR V.3'
6. Select the Output format you want. If you are unsure what you want,
select auto.
7. The code should turn up in the right text box.
8. Done!

BII4. Max Stats (Atk, Def, Pow, Res, Speed)
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
For this section I have provided individual codes along with some
special
CBA codes that modify a specific stat for all characters, e.g. 'All
Character's Max Atk' as done for the HP, MP and JP codes.
Note: There is a small problem with the Speed codes. For some reason
some of the characters' value for 999 is 997 or 998. Therefore, if you
use a code to make all stats 999, they end up with either 0 or 1. I'm
not
sure how widespread this problem is, but I have had other reports of
this
other than me. If you have this problem, use the alternative speed
codes,
which will make the characters who stats are usually 999, 997 instead,
whilst the others will have either 998 or 999.

BII5. Cards
+=--=+=--=+=--=+
These codes modify the number of cards your characters have. For the CBA
codes you change the 'xx' to the number of cards you want that character
to have (in hexadecimal). For the GSA and PAR V3 codes I have encrypted
them to set the amount of cards to zero. If for some reason you wish to
change this you will have to re-encrypt the codes with ARCrypt.

BII6. Level Up

Basically, these codes just set your EXP points to 99. You will need to
do combat damage to level up the character. Once again, I've provided a

BII7. Abilities
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
These codes only modify the name of the 'ability set' (I don't know
the proper name for it). This won't change the 'contents' of the folder.
To do this, you will have to use the Job and Race codes to get the job
that corresponds to the Ability set. For example, if you wanted Marche
to have the Aim tech set, you would use the Job codes to change Marche
into a Archer (and Race codes if need be), then use the Ability code to
get the name of the folder correct. Note: if you were really lazy you
could just not modify the Ability code and instead just change the job.
Encrypted GSA & PAR V3 codes have been provided in the Appendices.
For example, say you want Marche to have the Gunmanship set.
The code for Marche is 320000B5 00xx. So the first part of the code
will be 320000B5 001C . Now, to change his job, race & appearance.
Using the instructions below you'll find that
Gunner is 26
Moogle is 05
Marche's original Apperance is 02
320000B5 001C
82000084 2602
82000086 2605
Note - to use the abilities in the set you will need to have mastered
them - use the Master all Abilities code to do this.

BII8. Job, Race & Appearance
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
These codes are quite complex. They modify the race, job and
appearance of your character in two codes. I've lumped them together
because it is essential you use the correct combinations or else
the game may freeze

Minor Note: I have not gotten far in the game so if I don't know a

BIG NOTE: I've only checked these characters in the Party screen.
Whether
they are playable or not, I have not yet tested. However, although they
may start out looking weird, just select them and they'll walk into the

xx is Job
yy is Appearance
zz is Race
So, replace xx with the job you want from the job list, the Appearance
from Jumi's list and the Race from the job list.
For example. Say you want player 5 to have the Time Mage job (2B), and
so be a moogle (05) and look like Llednar (0D).

Note: You would probably have to use the all abilities code for Player
5 as well and if you want the Primary Ability Mod to change the name
of the set.
Also, I haven't gotten round to encrypt GSA codes yet, you'll have to
encrypt them yourselves until I get round to doing some.

BIII2. Item Slot Modifiers
+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
I think now an explanation is necessary on how the game store items. The
game uses a 'slot' system similar to most RPGs. Basically, you'd think
of
slots as lots of little boxes. The value of the slot represents what
item
is in it. Note: for these codes you will need to encrypt the GSA and PAR
codes yourself. For instructions on how to do this see the ARCrypt
section
of this guide. However, I have provided some pre-encrypted codes for the
first slot in the appendix.
- CBA -
- RAW -
These modify the amount of an item you have. The problem is it's hard to
tell what item is in what slot due to the way the game stores items. So
it's easiest to use these codes in conjuction with the slot mods so you
know what slot you should be modifying.
For the GSA & PAR V3 codes I have encrypted the codes to set the
quantity
at 99, if for some reason you want a different value you will have to
encrypt the code yourself. For the CBA codes replace the first 2 digits
with 01 and the last two digits with a hex number between 00 and 63 ,
Because of the way the cheat devices work, while having this code on it
will act as a 'infinite item quantity' code. I advise that you use this
code then turn it off. The quantity _should_ stay at 99 and it will also
decrease instead of staying fixed.
I have also added a slide code for CBA which affects all slots. Due to

Hail Helder! He's got the monster bank codes. Bow down to The Over Lord!
Note: For GSA/PAR V3 owners whose cheat devices don't do two line
slides,
the eighth section includes codes to fill up your entire Monster Bank
with max stats monsters with only half the amount of codes you'd use if
you used each of the below codes separately.
If for some reason you don't want to use all of the codes in a block,
the first line is for the first monsters, second for second etc...

Big thanks to all the guys at CMGSCCC for all their hard code making
work including Helder, likk, Mastersord, radical dreamer,
TheUltimateEnd,
DarkSerge, Absolute Empty, ArcXIX, DarkWingAngel, Sephiroth9999 and the
rest of you n00bies out there making the code requests (and anyone else
I've missed out).
Forgotten, for writing VBA and making the world a better place for
gamers
that don't have a lot of money.

D1. Contact Info
+==-=+=--=+=--=+=--=+
1. State what version of the guide you've got. Also, make sure you've
got the latest version - I always update first to GameFAQs.
2. State where you got the guide from. This helps me with tracking
who's got my guide (esp. if they shouldn't) and how many people are
seeing it.
3. State CLEARLY what your problem is (if it's a problem you have).
Include the section of the Guide in question if at all possible.
4. DO NOT email about things that I have specifically told you not to
in the guide.
5. DO NOT email me about a problem with your cheat device, whether it
be nothing works, or you don't know how to enter the friggin' codes.
Seeing how I don't own any of these devices myself (all hacking done
with an emulator), I probably can't help you anyway.
6. DO NOT email me about other things to do with the game, e.g. 'What
items are the best?' Check out GameFAQs, there's some good guides
there, or have a look on the boards.
7. If you want to host the guide, make sure you tell me WHERE you want
to put it (you will not believe the emails I've got before about
my other guides).
8. Finally, if you don't get an answer within 2 days, that's kind of
normal, I've got lots of mail to answer, but before that there's
school work etc., so I might not be able to reply straight away
(if you need a quick answer it's best to email on Fridays, Saturdays
or Tuesdays). However, if it's been 4 days and you haven't heard
anything, it's becuase: a) I'm on holiday, b) I'm VERY busy,
c) Your message has been lost in a sea of, uh, other messages,
d) I'm ignoring you on purpose, or e) I'm temporarily incapacitated.
NOTE: If I'm ignoring you it's probably for a good reason. Actually,
there's one other reason why (this has happened to me a couple of
times): I can't email to your address for some reason. Either I'm
getting blocked by a filter or your address has changed.
Last Note: I don't reply to requests, because I don't have the time to.
Your request will be read and taken note of, however.

I. INTRODUCTION
---------------
Hello. This is my very first video game faq ever, so please be gentle.
I'll
try to be as concise as possible. This guide was originally intended to
focus
solely on hacking the stats of the four growth items (Sequence, Sapere
Aude,
Peytral, and Acacia Hat). Other hackers have already done an excellent
job of
cracking this game to pieces, and this was one of the only corners of
the game
that had been left untouched. However, as you can see in my version
history,
it was rejected. Twice.
Some folks on the message board were very kind, and politely suggested
that I
find ways to add more codes. I thought long and hard about this, and
decided
that I didn't want to repeat the work of others. However, there were a
few
other tiny little areas of the game that I might be able to hack "a few
more
codes" out of. These new codes really have nothing to do with each
other, and
are united in this guide only by the common trait of being left out of
previous
faqs. Indeed, none of them are really as useful as the growth item
codes, but
you may be able to find an interesting purpose for them.
So, before you go any further, you need to know that you won't find any
master
codes here, nor should you expect a comprehensive code database. This
site
already has several faqs with all the standard item, character, and
monster
bank codes. The only codes I'm including in this guide are codes that I
couldn't find anywhere else, in any format.
You also need to know that this guide is NOT intended to teach you how
to hack,
write, or encrypt your own codes. Labmaster has an excellent set of
primers on
www.cheatandwin.com to do that, already. This guide is written
primarily for
seasoned hackers who want some new information about unexplored areas of
the
game. I will do my best to explain how the game deals with these
specific
topics, give you some addresses and values, and offer some sample codes
in as
many formats as I know how.
I hope you find this helpful. But, if you want to alter the sample
codes to
different values, I'm sorry to say that you'll have to learn how to do
it on
your own. Don't worry, though. It's not that hard. In fact, this is
the game
I learned how to hack with. It has a wonderfully diverse set of
challenges
that have definitely prepared me for future endeavors. And, while I'm
eager to
move on to other projects, I suppose I don't mind being forced to juice
a
little bit more out of one of my favorite games of all time.

II. GROWTH ITEMS
----------------
The four growth items are earned in the game by completing special
Tournament,
Clan League, and Link Missions. An item is given as a reward the first
time
one of its associated missions is successfully completed. These items
cannot
be sold or traded. Without hacking the item's quantity, you can only
ever earn
one of each. After you earn (or hack) the item, one of its stat values
will
increase each time you successfully complete one of its associated
missions.
The stats that increase (and their original values) are as follows:
02002031 = Sequence
02002032 = Sapere Aude
02002033 = Peytral
02002034 = Acacia Hat
When you first obtain the item, the hex value is 0x00. Every time you
successfully complete an associated mission, this value increases by
0x01. The
hex value maxes out at 0xFF (255). Don't worry, the game won't loop it
back to
0x00 if you keep completing missions. The stat value is equal to the
original
value plus the hex value. However, the in-game value maxes out at 255.
These codes will set all four hex values to 0xFF, giving you the max
stats for
all four items.

III. CHARACTER LEVELS
---------------------
I should warn you, though, that unlike some RPGs, or games like Pokemon,
in
FFTA a character's level has NO direct effect on their stats. Changing
a
character's experience level will NOT change their statistics, nor will
it
affect their performance in combat (excepting, of course, a few spells
that
only affect characters of certain levels). A character's statistics
only
increase when they level up, and the amount they increase is independent
of
their level.
So, why would you want to hack a character's level? I can think of
three
reasons.
Second, the average level of the members of your party determines the
approximate levels of the enemies you encounter in random engagements.
If you
have a large party, but have only been concentrating on leveling up a
few of
its members, then you will soon find that leveling up becomes difficult,
in
general. The enemies you face will all have levels in the middle of
your own
level range. So, the low level members will be too weak to survive long
against the relatively powerful enemies you face, and the high level
members
will be getting very little experience for fighting relatively low level
enemies. Adjusting the levels of your characters can fix this problem,
and can
be used to make enemies stronger or weaker, as needed.
Third, you may want to lower your characters' levels to give them more
opportunities to level up. Their stats stop growing after they reach
level 50,
so why not knock them back down to zero and start all over? Or, if
you're
really maniacal, you can use a pair of 8-bit constant write slide codes
(included in the sample codes section) to set their levels to 0 and
their
experience points to 99. Then, every time they earn any amount of
experience,
they'll level up... to infinity. Just four lines of code and your
characters
get obscenely powerful, fast. Sure, you could just hack their stats
manually,
but that takes quite a few more codes, and may not be as fun.

These codes are described above in The Basics. Keep your codes turned

quickly. I'm
only writing the PARV3 codes, though, because it's the only hacking
device with
8-bit slide codes. Sorry. It shouldn't be hard to just mix the above
level
zero codes with Labmaster's "Level Up" codes, though.

IV. NAMES
---------
For example, when looking for the name of the main character, the game
will
first go to address 0x02000080. By default, that address contains the
32-bit
value 0x02001F1C. At this point, if you've read TetrisTheMovie's faq,
you will
hopefully recognize 0x02001F1C as the address for the first 16-bit
character of
the name. If you've left the character's name as Marche, then it should
be a
capital "M", or 0xBC80. The next two bytes would be lower case "a", or
0xCA80,
and so on until you reach the end of the name and the value 0x0000,
which
signals the end of the string.
So, why does the game do this? Why doesn't the game just store the
character
string at the original address in the first place? Because, as I'm sure
you've
noticed, the vast majority of the names in FFTA cannot be customized.
Again,
if you read Terence Fergusson's Mechanics Guide, you'll find several
long lists
of almost all the possible names used in FFTA. These names are stored
as
character strings in the actual ROM, and therefore can't be altered
(easily).
Rather than creating a new character string in the RAM, the game simply
creates
a 32-bit address that points to the location of the character string in
the
ROM.
The original addresses (the pointers) for each character's name are as
follows:
I suspect that there are similar addresses for the clan name, enemies,
and
monster bank monsters. I just haven't looked for them all, yet.
It is also important to note that, for some unknown reason, the game
uses two
different schemes for representing the characters used in names. I
suspect
this has something to do with using the main character's name and the
clan name
in the game script.
As far as I can tell, the two schemes are interchangeable. The main
character's name can be pointed to a ROM value, and secondary character
names
can be pointed to the main character's string without problems. You
could
probably, therefore, code the character string at 0x02001F1C using the
8-bit
scheme, but I would guess that this might cause problems for the game
script.
At this time, I don't have any kind of list of the locations of the
different
names stored on the ROM ready for you. However, I will say that they're
all in
the 0x085XXXXX area. If you have a ROM, though, using the information I
gave
you above, it shouldn't be too difficult to create a table file for the
8-bit
scheme, and use a hex editor (along with TFergusson's guide) to find the
ones
you want.
Now, here's the part where we start taking advantage of all this
information.
There are several ways that we can change names in FFTA:
1.) If you just want to change the name of the main character or your
clan, you
can follow the method outlined in TetrisTheMovie's guide to change the
name to
whatever you want.
4.) This last one excites me the most. If we can find an unused section
of the
RAM, then we should be able to create our own brand new character
strings, and
then point the original addresses to the new strings. By doing this, we
could
change any name to anything we want! I haven't even started testing
this,
though. I imagine it will take some work to find a good place to put
the
character string, where it won't get any interference but will still be
copied
to the game's battery file.
Well, that's pretty much where I'm at right now. I don't even have
sample
codes for this section, yet. But, if any prodigious hackers out there
want to
take this info and do something with it, please keep me updated on your
progress. I'm very interested to see what can be done.
