ENGLISH TEACHING PRACTICE

I. The English Classroom

I think that the cartoon is illustrating the behavior that students can have inside of the
classroom when they are in chart of a teacher who does not know how to control a
problematic situation or maybe a teacher who planned a class without take into
consideration the needs of their students, creating a hard clime in the classroom
discouraging the children.
I believe that this can be the real situation because I see that none of the children are
paying attention to the explanations that the teachers is giving in front of the class. And
another reason that makes me think this is because the teacher continues writing on the
board despite the fact that children are not interesting on the topic that she is teaching at
that moment.

II. Student’s behavior

During all my process of teaching practice I could recognize the different behaviors that
students can have inside of the classroom. I saw children who worked very hard and by
themselves, students who almost never asked me for doubts and they always did they
works well. However, I also saw children who did not participate on any activity
because they were always doing something else or bothering someone else. In the class
where I could see this situation was in the fifth year A. This course has a wide
difference between one group of students and the other ones. Some students have
learning problems and behavior problems too, so treat with these specific students
inside of a classroom is very complicated and delicate too because you have try to
maintain the control over the students all the time and create activities in order to keep
them concentrated and occupied the rest of the class because if you do not plan an
interesting activity they would probably start any kind of conflict inside the room, like
fights, games, jokes, etc. Situation that in the future would decentralize and affect the
rest of the students, making you loose the class control.
However, not all the courses were like this class because with the other two classes I
have never have this kind of problems, they always have a good behavior with me and
the rest of their classmates.
The most problematic situation that I remember with disruptive student is with Eric, a
boy of fifth year A. I had problems with him every day of my practice, because he never
wanted to do anything in the class. I tried different things, new activities with them, but
his answers were always negatives and without any respect. I think this situation is
related with different things, first with his environment, maybe with his parents directly
and secondly with the authorities of the school, because this child has problems in all
the subjects and with all the teachers of the school, but they all justify him for the fact
that he has learning problems and because he is hyperactive1.
I think that is good idea talk with this kind of children and identify the real problem of
these students because not all the children have the same reality inside or outside of the
school. And other idea (thing that some teacher of the school advice me) is to maintain
these children always occupied and motivated with the things that are doing, because
the principal reason of being distracted is because they finish their works earlier than the
rest of their classmates.

1. Someone who is hyperactive has more energy than is normal, gets excited easily and
cannot stay still or think about their work
